Sorong – The Indonesian government has consistently voiced its commitment to moving Papua forward, presenting a promising vision of economic, social and political progress in the region.

Efforts to accelerate Papua’s development are largely driven by the desire to overcome inequality and integrate the region more closely with Indonesian national unity. The government has allocated a significant budget for infrastructure, education, health and other key sectors in Papua.

One of the main problems faced in accelerating Papua’s development is the lack of participation and involvement of local communities in planning and implementing development projects. Even though the government has made efforts to improve coordination between relevant parties and indigenous communities, there are still many concerns among some groups that development policies have not fully taken into account local needs and aspirations.

In a discussion between the President’s Special Staff Billy Mambrasar and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto, both of them emphasized their commitment to collaborate in maintaining security and stability in Papua in order to support accelerated development and prosperity in the region.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, appreciated the steps taken by Billy and his team, saying that the approach to advancing Papua must start from developing human resources. He also underlined the importance of the Millennial Farmer program initiated by Billy, which aims to increase food security by empowering young farmers.

Billy Mambrasar said that during his five years of service as Presidential Special Staff, his focus was on developing human resources, not only in Papua but also throughout Indonesia. Billy explained that the programs he implemented involved collaboration with various ministries and government institutions, such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, and others.

Billy also added that the innovations he brought were aimed at managing and developing human resources, such as the Kitong Bisa Foundation (KBF), National Youth Talent Management (MANTAP), Millennial Farmers, Indonesian Village Real Aspiration System (SINDI), and Papua Youth Creative Hub ( PYCH).

In this context, collaboration between the central and regional governments, as well as the active participation of the Papuan people, is the key to facing complex challenges and realizing the vision of accelerating Papua’s inclusive and sustainable development.

There are a number of achievements that should be recognized in efforts to accelerate Papua’s development. Better infrastructure development has increased accessibility to inland areas, increasing connectivity between villages and regional economic centers.

Local economic empowerment programs have also provided opportunities for the Papuan people to improve their own welfare. In the Papuan development context, where political, social and cultural complexities often pose challenges, support from the community is a critical foundation for the success of any development effort.
