Harmony ahead of the 2024 regional elections is the key to maintaining Indonesia’s democratic climate

Jakarta – Maintaining harmony is an important key in carrying out the democratic process, especially ahead of the 2024 Regional Head Election. As the political atmosphere heats up, maintaining peace and unity between various elements of society is a top priority.
In facing this challenge, the participation of all parties, from the government to ordinary people, is vital to realizing a democratic party that is peaceful and has integrity. Southwest Papua, as an important stage, received special attention from the Traditional Chair of the Malamoi Community, Silas Kalami, S.Sos, MA, and the Chair of the Sorong City GKI Class, Pdt. Jeane Fonataba Haurissa. Both of them muttered a message of peace, inviting every individual to become a guardian of security and order in their region.
Rev. Jeane Fonataba Haurissa highlighted the importance of order and security amidst the chaotic political atmosphere. He emphasized that peace is something beautiful and must be maintained together.
At the same time, the traditional figur of the Malamoi Community, Silas Kalami, warned of the potential for conflict that could arise amidst political currents. He invited us to stay away from issues that could divide us and provide positive enlightenment to the community to avoid friction.
In facing the 2024 regional elections, Silas Kalami also highlighted the existence of propaganda and issues that emerged, both for the interests of the government and certain political groups. However, he emphasized that the success of this democratic party depends on active participation and collective awareness to maintain peace. He invited all elements of society to avoid provocation and reflect on the impacts it could have.
On the other hand, the General Election Commission has officially launched the stages of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections in Southwest Papua Province, marking the start of a process that requires active involvement from all parties.
In the launch event which was attended by various figures and related agencies, the Head of the Technical Division for Election Implementation of the Indonesian General Election Commission, Dr. H. Idham Holik, S.E., M.Si, emphasized that voter awareness and community harmony are the main foundations for the success of this democratic party.
Idham Holik ensures that his party and related parties have carried out a thorough evaluation of the previous elections, and are now focusing on ensuring that each stage runs according to the rules and standards that have been set. He highlighted the importance of updating voter data to ensure the accuracy of the final voter list, which is the main basis for the continuity of the democratic process.
As we approach the 2024 regional elections, we are reminded of the importance of maintaining harmony as the main foundation for progress and peace. Every word, action and decision has great potential to shape the direction of this nation’s journey. []
