Deemed successful in holding the G20 Summit, WWC entrusts Indonesia as host
Nusa Dua Bali – The World Water Council chose Indonesia to host the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali. This international forum for handling water problems will be held in Bali 18-25 May 2024.
Expert Staff to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Water Resources Sector, Firdaus Ali said, as the host of WWF 2024, Indonesia wants to bring water as a source of growth and shared prosperity, not to create problems.
“We agree that the meeting in Bali is a very monumental meeting to transform all policies, all spirits so that we can face the future together to make water a source of life, growth and peace, not the other way around,” said Firdaus at the Nusa Dua Convention Center, Bali .
Firdaus added that WWC chose Indonesia to host WWF 2024, because Indonesia was considered successful in hosting the G20 some time ago.
“This event in Bali will present 290 activities/sessions that we will hold, including 230 sessions concerning thematic processes, regional processes, political processes, with the big theme being Water for Shared Prosperity,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair I of the National Secretariat Organizing the 10th World Water Forum, Endra S. Atmawidjaja, said that Indonesia would introduce water governance through a local wisdom approach to WWF participants.
“Indonesia’s success in encouraging water governance through a local cultural approach can be a lesson for the global community. These good practices involving all stakeholders prove that Indonesia is able to lead the world in facing the water crisis,” said Endra.
For information, WWF is a global water forum which is held every three years. The Indonesian government invited 43 ambassadors and four international organizations to the meeting which discussed various crucial issues related to water.
There are four main topics discussed in the 10th WWF, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and natural disaster mitigation. [*]
