BALI — The 10th World Water Forum (WWF) or World Water Forum which was held in Bali brought global solutions as answers to various water issues. For the first time, the 10th WWF produced a Ministerial Declaration in the history of the WWF event.
Minister of PUPR, Basuki Hadimuljono said that the Ministerial Declaration was one of the achievements in organizing WWF 2024. Apart from that, Basuki also emphasized that Indonesia had succeeded in compiling a list of projects related to solutions to water problems in the world.
“Apart from the Minister’s Declaration, one of the achievements of this forum was Indonesia’s success in compiling a list of water-related projects which are the mainstay of various countries,” said Basuki Hadimuljono.
There are three points in the Ministerial Declaration, first, the establishment of a center of excellence for water and climate security to develop capacity, share knowledge and utilize superior facilities.
“As an archipelagic country, Indonesia must be at the forefront of encouraging innovation in water and sanitation management. “The Center of Excellence is not only for Indonesia, but is also useful for other countries in the Asia Pacific,” said Basuki.
“This Center of Excellence (COE) is the answer to the climate challenges we are facing now in the world. In establishing the Center of Excellence, Indonesia is targeting strengthening South-South cooperation (SSC),” he added.
Second, the Minister’s Declaration is to raise and encourage the issue of integrated water resources management on small islands. Third, proposing World Lakes Day because lakes are a source of water supply that supports humans and also has social and economic functions for society.
“We have to protect lakes to prolong their life, this is the purpose of celebrating World Lakes Day. “The commemoration of World Lakes Day is not just symbolic, but is one of the main keys to preserving lakes throughout the world,” he concluded.
