President Macron Appreciates the Implementation of the 10th WWF in Bali
Jakarta – The 10th WWF is an important momentum for the whole world to come together to provide solutions and develop strategies for water management which will have a major impact on global water security.
French President Emmanuel Macron appreciated the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Nusa Dua, Bali, as an effort to develop strategies for dealing with water problems and realizing water security for the world.
Macron stated that the 10th World Water Forum reminded the world community of the importance of water or “blue gold”, as the most important resource for life.
“Blue gold, as it is called, has always been the main resource and has high symbolic value for everyone, and access to water is one of the factors of independence and inter-independence between nations,” he said.
This forum is increasingly urgent because the global community must now respond to the challenges posed by the impact of climate change on the water cycle which affects all aspects of human life, said President Macron.
He said climate change causes uncertain access to water, desertification, prolonged drought, floods and melting glaciers in various places in the world. Water problems can also become a threat to the community’s economy and increasingly put pressure on the community.
Macron is optimistic that the 10th WWF will achieve the success as expected. He reminded that investment in water is an investment to protect development and human health.
He highlighted Bali as a place to hold meetings which he said “could inspire international movements”, such as those that occurred at the G20 Summit in 2022, of which France is a member.
“You can count on France’s determination to make water a top issue on the agenda of the world community,” Macron said.
The 10th World Water Forum which was held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on 18-25 May 2024, discussed water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and natural disaster mitigation. A total of 244 water-related discussion sessions at the 10th WWF are expected to provide concrete results regarding global water management.
A ministerial level declaration was also successfully ratified at the forum. Indonesia’s proposals included in the declaration are the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Water and Climate Security, the establishment of World Lakes Day through a UN resolution, and mainstreaming water management issues for developing countries on small islands.
Apart from that, a concrete action compendium covering 113 projects in the water and sanitation sector worth IDR 148.94 trillion was also ratified at the 10th WWF.
