Closing the 10th WWF, Indonesia Proves Its Strategic Role in Water Management Issues
Indonesia successfully hosted the 10th World Water Forum which was held from 18-25 May 2024 in Bali. The success of holding this water event, shows the strength of Indonesia’s leadership and its strategic role in contributing to global conditions, especially related to the environment and climate change.
Indonesia’s commitment was clearly reflected in the 10th World Water Forum, where Indonesia really showed its leadership in dealing with climate change issues which included global water problems. Indonesia’s leadership also shows the strength of this country in playing a role in maintaining the existence of the environment and the sustainability of human life.
WWF is a multi-stakeholder event, as well as a forum for presenting the mission, views and achievements of the water community, so that Indonesia raises the big theme “Water for Shared Prosperity”. Meanwhile, in the thematic topic there are six sub-themes, namely Water Security and Prosperity, Water for Humans and Nature, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Governance, Cooperation, and Hydro-diplomacy Sustainable Water Finance, Knowledge and Innovation.
Countries and related stakeholders are given the opportunity to discuss and exchange experiences and innovations related to water issues, through a number of thematic, political and regional topics. Many solutions and agreements were produced during the 10th WWF.
In the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations (UN) with the aim of creating clean water and adequate sanitation, Indonesia is currently continuing to strive to increase accessibility to clean water and its management, both facilities and quality. However, there are still factors such as the environment and human resources which are still challenges that must be faced. This not only happens domestically, but globally it is also a problem for other countries in the world.
The water problem is indeed a global problem which of course requires concrete or real solutions so that it can be accounted for, not only to the world but also to domestic society. The welfare and sustainability of people’s lives really depends on how policies are taken and transformed into steps and efforts to resolve water problems. Therefore, cooperation and collaboration between countries, related stakeholders and even the private sector and society, is very important to create technology and innovation that can support the implementation of sustainable clean water management policies in each country.
Danone Indonesia VP General Secretary Vera Galuh Sugijanto said that sustainable water management, or integrated water resources management, has great power to be a solution to the problem of water availability. The private sector also has a big role in supporting the success of sustainable water management in collaboration with various parties, especially the government.
Danone and the government have taken concrete steps to support water conservation efforts, while encouraging water use reduction and protection throughout our value chain, as well as increasing access to safe drinking water, in line with the company’s sustainability strategy, Danone Impact Journey. Danone’s participation in the World Water Forum 2024 is a concrete manifestation of the company’s commitment to actively participate in global collective efforts to realize Sustainable Development Goal 6, namely ensuring the availability of clean water and sustainable sanitation for communities throughout the world.
Apart from that, Expert Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Water Resources, Firdaus Ali, in a press conference, stated that Indonesia as the host of WWF 2024 brings water as a source of growth and shared prosperity, not to give rise to problems. According to him, the meeting of countries and stakeholders at WWF this time is a monumental event to transform all policies, all spirits to jointly welcome the future to make water a source of life, growth and peace.
Indonesia has succeeded in hosting a number of international events. This also shows how much trust the international public has in Indonesia’s leadership in world forums to share experiences and innovations and find concrete solutions for the global interests and interests of the Indonesian people.
Several international events were successfully held by Indonesia as host, including the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022, where this summit was successfully held smoothly despite the instability in world conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the geopolitical impact of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Then, Indonesia successfully held the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo and the 43rd in Bali in 2022 and 2023. Apart from that, Indonesia also hosted the Archipelagic And Island State (AIS) Forum Summit in 2023. In fact, the holding of the AIS Summit was the first since the AIS Forum was founded
Indonesia as a world leader is proof that Indonesia has become a strong and authoritative country. Indonesia shows its commitment to contributing to world peace and development.
