In this ever-developing era, the main challenge for big cities is to build a transportation system that is not only efficient but also environmentally friendly. Various initiatives have been taken to reduce the negative impact of transportation on the environment, one of which is system development in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). This system not only aims to improve mobility, but also to reduce the carbon footprint and promote sustainability.
The government is working to build a modern and sustainable capital city, implementing an environmentally friendly transportation system is one of the main focuses. Taking into account various aspects, including efficiency, safety and environmental impact, the steps taken in developing the new capital’s transportation system have major implications for the future of cities in Indonesia.
The move of the Indonesian capital to the Kalimantan region is an ambitious project that aims to overcome the problem of congestion and congestion in Jakarta and to level development throughout the country. One important aspect of this project is the development of an efficient and sustainable transportation system in the new capital. By heeding lessons from previous capitals and adopting the latest technology, the government is trying to build an environmentally friendly and modern transportation system.
The President of the Republic of Indonesia inaugurated a new era in transportation in the IKN area, East Kalimantan on December 21 2023. This step makes IKN a green area with environmentally friendly transportation, electricity and energy. Namely, realizing IKN development with the Forest City concept.
The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, said that this was not only an initiative, but also a symbol of commitment to accelerating the development of an electricity-based public transportation system. The launch of this environmentally friendly transportation marked a major breakthrough in creating a clean and healthy environment in the Indonesian Capital Region.
One of the main focuses in developing the new capital’s transportation system is the use of electric-based vehicles. This includes the operation of electric buses, electric trains and other public transport systems that use renewable energy. By reducing dependence on fossil fuels, these transportation systems can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
As part of its vision to create an environmentally friendly and sustainable city, the government of the new capital is also developing a wide and comfortable bicycle and sidewalk network. This not only provides a healthy and environmentally friendly transportation alternative, but also increases safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
The use of smart technologies such as traffic sensors, centralized traffic management systems and smart travel applications is becoming an integral part of the new capital’s transportation system. Using real-time data, the system can optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion and speed up travel times for residents and visitors.
Apart from that, the government also encourages the use of shared transportation such as carpooling, ridesharing and application-based vehicle rental. By making more efficient use of existing transportation resources, this system not only reduces congestion, but also helps reduce the number of vehicles on the road and their impact on the environment.
The transportation system at IKN promises innovative and efficient solutions to modern transportation challenges. By integrating various modes of transportation, utilizing the latest technology, and promoting sustainability, IKN is paving the way towards greener, healthier and modern cities.
Even though it has many benefits, the implementation of the Indonesian capital’s transportation system is also faced with various challenges. Starting from large funding to coordination between various stakeholders, there are many factors that need to be considered in designing and implementing this efficient and sustainable transportation system. However, with strong commitment from the government, support from the private sector, and active participation from the community, these challenges can be overcome.
Implementing a transportation system in the Indonesian capital is an important step in building a modern, sustainable and environmentally friendly city. By taking into account various aspects, including efficiency, safety and environmental impact, this transportation system has the potential to become a model for future cities in Indonesia and around the world. However, to achieve this vision, commitment and cooperation from all relevant parties is required, as well as consistency in implementing policies that support sustainable city development.
