The year 2024 marks an important moment for Indonesian democracy with the holding of regional elections simultaneously in various regions. In the midst of the excitement of this democratic party, concerns have emerged about potential vulnerabilities that could disrupt the smoothness and credibility of the regional elections. However, despite these worries, it is important to remain optimistic and work together to be smart voters in order to create a quality democratic party.

Potential vulnerabilities in regional elections can arise from various sides. Regional elections often trigger social tension in society. Differences in political choices can lead to horizontal conflict, especially in areas with complex social and cultural backgrounds.

The spread of false information or hoaxes is a serious threat in this digital era. Social media has become an effective means of spreading untrue news that can influence people’s perceptions and choices.

Facing various potential vulnerabilities in the regional elections, people need to be smart voters. The public needs to be actively involved in every stage of the regional elections, from campaigning to monitoring the voting and vote counting process, this will increase the transparency and accountability of the process.

To be an intelligent voter, you need to ensure that the information you receive regarding the Pilkada comes from trusted and credible sources in order to avoid hoaxes and misinformation circulating on social media. It is very important for voters to study the vision and mission of the leadership candidates carefully. Choose a leader who has a clear program and is pro-people, not based on identity politics or empty promises.

There are four indicators of regional election success. Namely high community participation, maintaining a conducive climate, successful implementation of each stage, and government and services running without interruption. So, from the start we take steps to coordinate, collaborate and synergize well, so that we are sure that all problems can be resolved well.

The implementation of the 2024 regional elections also really requires active participation from the younger generation. Education and training to become smart voters need to be socialized to the younger generation, such as in the East Java region. Hundreds of students from the Nahdlatul Ulama Institute of Health Sciences (IIKNU) Tuban Regency took part in socialization activities with the theme “Smart Voters Sign of Regional Elections with Integrity” organized by the Tuban Regency Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) at the local campus.

Head of the Tuban Police OPS Division, Commissioner Sugimat, said that his party really supports and appreciates the regional election outreach activities for students, so that the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections can take place successfully and asked students to help make the upcoming regional elections a success.

Likewise, the Chancellor of IIKNU Tuban, Miftahul Munir, said that the socialization of the 2024 regional elections to students is expected to be educational, especially for first-time voters.

Being an intelligent and optimistic voter in the midst of potential regional elections is both a challenge and an opportunity. With good political education, active participation and an optimistic attitude, the community can work together to maintain the integrity and quality of the regional elections. Active participation from various parties, from organizers, supervisors, to voters, is very necessary to realize honest, fair and high-quality regional elections. Together, we can create positive change and strengthen democracy in Indonesia.
