Indonesia Strengthens Global Diplomatic Position Through the 2nd IPPP
Jakarta – The Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR-RI), will again hold meetings with the parliaments of countries in the Pacific region through the 2nd Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP). This event will be held on 24-26 July 2024 in Jakarta and will be attended by 16 countries from the Pacific region, confirming Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening regional relations.
Chairman of BKSAP DPR RI Fadli Zon revealed that this meeting was a continuation of the first IPPP which was held in 2018.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the DPR RI’s busy schedule in hosting the IPU in 2022, the second meeting can only be held now. We hope for active participation from the parliaments of Pacific countries,” said Fadli
The 2nd IPPP aims to build connectivity between the DPR RI and the parliaments of Pacific countries through various collaborations.
It is hoped that this forum can open dialogue and communication between countries in the Pacific region, which have important geopolitical interests.This meeting will discuss issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to encourage a better and more sustainable life in Indonesia, Asia Pacific countries and the world.
“This meeting will formulate the concept of preserving Natural Resources (SDA) in each country for the common good, as well as solving challenges such as climate change and food security.
The theme is ‘Partnership for Prosperity: Fostering Regional Connectivity and Inclusive Development’,” explained Fadli Zon.As host, Indonesia played a central role in the 2nd IPPP.
Fadli Zon emphasized that this forum is important for Indonesia’s national interests, especially in explaining related issues such as the situation in Papua.
“Most of us already know them, so this dialogue is important to strengthen understanding and cooperation,” added Fadli.
It is hoped that the results of the 2nd IPPP can become input for the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Meeting which will be held on 26-30 August 2024 in Tonga.
The 2nd IPPP is a momentum for Indonesia to strengthen relations and cooperation with Pacific countries, for mutual progress in various fields.Support for the 2nd IPPP does not only come from within the country but also from the international community.
The Indonesian government and various stakeholders are committed to ensuring this event is successful and has a broad positive impact.
“We have full support from various parties, including the government, private sector and international institutions, who believe in the importance of this forum in advancing regional cooperation,” said Fadli Zon.**
