Indonesia Utilizes the 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP as a Momentum to Initiate Cooperation in Various Sectors

Bali – The 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) and the High Level Forum on Multi Stakeholders Partnership (HLF-MSP) 2024, held in Bali from September 1-3, 2024, will serve as an important moment for Indonesia to demonstrate its strategic role in strengthening global cooperation across various sectors, particularly among Global South countries.

In addition to the IAF, President Jokowi also opened the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF-MSP) held concurrently in Bali. This forum serves as a platform to strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships in addressing increasingly complex global challenges.

“We need a new strategy to achieve fairer and more inclusive development for developing countries,” said Jokowi.

The 2nd IAF, themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063,” once again reminds us of the historical closeness established since the Asia-Africa Conference in 1955. In this forum, four priority sectors are the main focus: food security, energy, health, and minerals. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pahala Mansury, explained that the 2nd IAF provides an opportunity for Indonesia and African countries to deepen cooperation in those sectors. “African countries have great potential to diversify Indonesia’s export markets and investments,” said Pahala.

In addition, the 2nd IAF is also expected to produce a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation with a total value reaching US$ 3.5 billion, which will encourage mutually beneficial economic growth between Indonesia and African countries.

Meanwhile, the HLF-MSP 2024, held concurrently with the 2nd IAF, reaffirms Indonesia’s position as a leader in efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. This forum brings together around 1,000 participants from various countries and international organizations to discuss pressing global issues, including efforts to narrow the development gap between countries in the Global South and North.

The Director of Foreign Policy and International Development Cooperation at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Hendra Wahanu Prabandani, emphasized that HLF-MSP 2024 is a tangible proof of Indonesia’s leadership in fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships. “This forum serves as a catalyst for innovative solutions in addressing global challenges and strengthens Indonesia’s role as a leader in efforts to achieve the SDGs,” said Hendra.

These two forums, the 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP 2024, not only strengthen diplomatic relations between Indonesia and African countries but also reaffirm Indonesia’s commitment to advocating for justice and inclusivity in international cooperation. With this success, Indonesia is further strengthening its position as an active global leader in advancing South-South cooperation and providing solutions to complex global challenges. []
