Indonesia Successfully Strengthens Global South Solidarity Towards Achieving the SDGs Through the IAF II and HLF-MSP Events

Bali – Indonesia emphasizes its commitment to being part of the global solution, a stance that has not changed since the Asia-Africa Conference held in Bandung, Indonesia in 1955.

This was conveyed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, at the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) 2024 in Bali.

“Indonesia is committed to being part of the global solution, defending the interests of the Global South while also serving as a bridge builder in advocating for equality, justice, and solidarity in accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.” (SDGs). “This is a commitment that Indonesia has consistently upheld since the Asia-Africa Conference 69 years ago,” Jokowi explained.

Jokowi emphasized that all delegations present at the 2nd HLF MSP and IAF aim to create positive change in a world filled with challenges, including issues related to economic slowdown, unemployment rates, and persistent inflation, as well as ongoing geopolitical tensions that have caused many casualties and disrupted global supply chains.

However, it is said that the President of Indonesia noted that during times like this, international solidarity is actually declining, the spirit of multilateralism is increasingly being sidelined, and fragmentation is widening.

“In the end, developing countries are the most affected. Millions of people in developing countries are the ones who feel the difficulties the most,” he emphasized.

However, Jokowi said that there are only six years left until the SDGs 2030, and only 17 percent of the SDG targets have been achieved.

For this reason, he emphasized the need for a new direction and vision, as well as new strategies and tactical steps, to achieve a more equitable and inclusive development for developing countries.
