Papuan Religious Figure, Rev. Freddy H Toam Calls for Peaceful Regional Elections in Papua

Ahead of the implementation of the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) for governor-deputy governor, mayor-deputy mayor and regent-deputy regent, religious figures in Papua must be able to direct their people to create a safe and peaceful atmosphere.

This was conveyed by Papuan Religious Figure Rev. Freddy H Toam, when confirmed by Cenderawasih Pos, Friday (11/22).

“The role of religious figures is very much needed to maintain security and comfort in the Pilkada, not to worsen the atmosphere. Moreover, dividing their people, aren’t we all brothers. Therefore, choices may be different but the bonds of brotherhood must not be broken,” said Freddy.

He also asked the public to use their voting rights on November 27, to vote in a civilized, ethical and dignified manner.

“Don’t create conflict among people, Papua is a land of peace so let’s ignite the spirit of peace on this land,” he said.
