Beware of Provocation of Dynasty Politics Issues, 2024 Regional Elections Proven to be Safe and Democratic

Jakarta – The film Keluarga Berkuasa which was released some time ago ahead of the implementation of the Simultaneous Regional Elections is considered irrelevant, even tending to be misleading and provocative.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan emphasized that the majority of stages of the regional-level democratic party went smoothly, although several regions required a re-vote due to natural disasters.

The government, according to him, has anticipated various potential obstacles by involving the TNI, Polri, and related agencies to maintain security.

He emphasized that the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections have attracted international attention because they prove Indonesia’s commitment as the third largest democracy in the world.

“Most of the stages went smoothly, safely, and peacefully. Although there are challenges, the government ensures that collaboration between institutions can overcome them well,” said Budi Gunawan.

Previously, Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) politician Ariyo Bimmo said that the issue of dynasty politics is currently irrelevant.

“In a democratic system, the issue of dynasty is irrelevant because the people choose directly,” he said.

He also appealed to those who have been spreading the issue not to underestimate the intelligence of the people.

Meanwhile, former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD highlighted the importance of the 2015 Constitutional Court (MK) Decision which removed the ban on incumbent families from running for office.

He considered the decision to be in line with the constitution which guarantees the right of every citizen to participate in politics, regardless of kinship.

“The Constitutional Court has correctly decided that political rights should not be limited based on family status. The phenomenon of dynasty politics is more about political morality, not just constitutionality,” explained Mahfud MD.

The smooth running of the 2024 Pilkada is clear evidence that Indonesian democracy has matured.

The local contestation event shows that the democratic system is no longer trapped by the dynamics of dynasty politics, but continues to move towards transparency and integrity.
