Government: Public Beware of Online Gambling Promotions Under the Guise of Job Vacancies
Jakarta – The viral job vacancy advertisements in the online gambling industry (judol) on social media have triggered serious attention from the government. The tempting offer for a customer service position with a salary of up to IDR 18 million per month is an attraction that has attracted many job seekers. However, behind the lure, there is a big risk lurking.
Responding to this phenomenon, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), Anwar Sanusi, emphasized that his party will take firm action against job vacancy advertisers who are suspected of fraud. “The Kemnaker Team is currently investigating this case. There have been several reports received with a similar mode that utilizes job vacancy advertisements available on job portals, asks for identity and cellphone or WhatsApp numbers, and offers the lure of big benefits,” said Anwar in an interview on Sunday (12/1).
He explained that the Kemnaker will work with the police to investigate this case further. “If there is a criminal element, of course we will hand it over to law enforcement officers,” he added. Anwar also appealed to job portal managers to increase their vigilance and strengthen risk mitigation against fake job vacancies, especially those related to the judol industry.
Meanwhile, a netizen shared an experience that warned job seekers to be more careful. He applied for an admin position at a company that was initially unknown to be engaged in online gambling. The high salary offer, which was between IDR 13 million and IDR 18 million per month, was the main reason for his interest. However, he became suspicious when the company asked about his willingness to be placed in Cambodia, a country known to legalize gambling.
“Finally I opened the chat from HR, and sure enough, there were many suspicious questions, such as whether I was familiar with casinos, the gaming industry, and so on. That’s it, I immediately blocked the contact, I was really scared,” he wrote on social media X.
The Ministry of Manpower also reminded the public to always be careful and thorough in responding to all forms of communication in the recruitment process. “The Ministry of Manpower urges job seekers to be careful and thorough in responding to emails and all forms of communication in the recruitment process,” said Anwar. He also emphasized the importance of active community participation in reporting suspicious job advertisements.
This government step is part of an effort to create a safe workspace free from irresponsible practices. With synergy between the government, the community, and digital platforms, it is hoped that the problem of judol advertisements can be reduced significantly. The government also continues to invite the public to be more vigilant against all forms of online gambling promotions, including those disguised as job vacancies.
