Government Allocates Funds in MSME Debt Relief Program
Jakarta – The government has shown its commitment to supporting the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector by allocating large funds in a debt relief program. This program aims to provide a second chance for MSMEs who are in debt, so that they can recover and contribute to national economic recovery. Through this policy, the government targets to erase debts from 1 million MSMEs, with a total value of IDR 14 trillion.
The Minister of MSMEs, Maman Abdurrahman, revealed that to date, the government has processed debt relief for 67 thousand MSME customers throughout Indonesia, with a total value of IDR 2.5 trillion.
“This is a significant initial step to ease the burden on MSMEs, which have been the backbone of the Indonesian economy, but are often hampered by financial problems. This debt relief is so that more MSMEs are free from the financial burden that hinders their growth,” said Maman.
A member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ilham Permana, welcomed this policy and called it a strategic step in supporting Indonesia’s economic recovery. According to him, the MSME sector is an important pillar in the Indonesian economy and deserves to be supported by the Government.
“This debt cancellation gives MSMEs a second chance to rise, reduce financial burdens, and play an active role in the national economy. This sector is an important pillar in the Indonesian economy, and debt cancellation will increase the productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs in the global market,” said Ilham.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Mahendra Siregar, said that OJK fully supports the MSME debt cancellation program and will continue to monitor the implementation of the program so that it can run smoothly.
“We provide full support for the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 47 of 2024 concerning the elimination of MSME bad debts. OJK will continue to monitor the implementation of this program to ensure its success,” said Mahendra.
Mahendra added that strict supervision of the implementation of this policy will ensure that the funds allocated are on target and used according to their intended purpose.
“This policy is expected to accelerate post-pandemic economic recovery and provide the impetus needed to advance the MSME sector which has proven to be able to absorb large numbers of jobs,” he concluded.
