Government Increases Supervision to Prevent Drug Distribution in Indonesia
Jakarta – The Indonesian government continues to strengthen strategic steps to prevent drug distribution and abuse throughout the country.
One significant effort has been made by the North Kalimantan Regional Police, which has implemented five main strategies: Prevention, Eradication, Rehabilitation, Cooperation, and Technology. Deputy Chief of the North Kalimantan Regional Police Brigadier General Pol. Soeseno Noerhandoko, explained that the prevention strategy is one of their main focuses.
“We are taking various important steps, such as awareness campaigns about the dangers of drugs through mass media, schools, and communities. In addition, anti-drug materials are also integrated into the school curriculum, and we provide training to teachers, parents, and the community,” said Soesono.
In addition to prevention, the cooperation strategy is also an important priority. The North Kalimantan Regional Police collaborate with various parties, including law enforcement officers for enforcement, local governments to raise awareness, and the private sector to support drug prevention programs.
“We also collaborate internationally to monitor global drug distribution,” added Soesono.
Similar steps were also taken by the Central Java Anti-Drug Movement (Geram) DPD. The Head of the Geram DPD, Havid Sungkar, emphasized that his party had collaborated with the Semarang BPOM to increase supervision of food and drinks circulating in the market.
“We are worried because the market is prone to finding the circulation of narcotics and dangerous drugs that could be in food or drinks. Therefore, we are working with the BPOM to help with supervision and prevention,” explained Havid.
Full support also came from the Head of Commission III of the Central Kalimantan Provincial DPRD, Sugiyarto. He emphasized the importance of strategic steps to overcome drug trafficking, both in terms of law enforcement and public education.
“We fully support every program that aims to suppress drug trafficking. Collaboration between the government, law enforcement officers, and the community is very important to create an environment free from drugs,” said Sugiyarto.
The circulation of drugs which continues to be a serious threat requires collective efforts from all elements of society. The Indonesian government, together with various related parties, is committed to ensuring that prevention and enforcement measures continue to run optimally in order to create an Indonesia that is free from drugs.
In the long term, the government also plans to expand rehabilitation programs for drug abuse victims, by establishing more affordable rehabilitation centers throughout Indonesia. This step is expected to help victims recover fully and return to being productive in society.
