Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok Facilitates Repatriation of Citizens Victims of Human Trafficking to Indonesia

Bangkok, Thailand – The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok has again successfully facilitated the repatriation of 2 victims of Human Trafficking (TPPO) to Indonesia (17/1).

The two Indonesian citizens, men aged 23 and 37, worked in the online scamming sector in Myanmar. The two Indonesian citizens were declared victims of TPPO by the Thai Government after going through the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) process which was held in Mae Sot City, Tak Province on December 12, 2024 and December 19, 2024 respectively.

During the NRM process until their return to Indonesia, the two Indonesian citizens received support, especially from the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok and the Thai Government.

Support in the form of, among others, basic necessities such as food and clothing, temporary accommodation (shelter), and the issuance of a Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport (SPLP).

Upon arrival at Soekarno Hatta Airport, the two Indonesian citizens were met by the Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers/Head of BP2MI, Abdul Kadir Karding, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related Ministries/Institutions to undergo further processes after arriving in Indonesia.

The Indonesian government continues to urge Indonesian citizens not to easily believe job offers abroad.

Indonesian citizens should check and re-check the legality of the company and the job abroad offered, and make sure to take care of visas and/or residence permits to work so as not to violate immigration regulations and employment laws in the destination country.
