The Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka governments have shown a high commitment to building a more equitable national economy since the beginning of their leadership. Various strategic policies have been implemented to ensure the welfare of the community, including those in border areas. The main focus of attention includes the agricultural, electricity, and education sectors as the main pillars of sustainable development.
One of the concrete steps in the first 100 days is the acceleration of food self-sufficiency. Prabowo Subianto targets Indonesia to achieve complete food self-sufficiency by 2025.
Dwi Andreas Santosa, Professor and Head of the IPB University Biotechnology Center, assessed that this step is not easy considering that dependence on food imports has been high in the last decade. However, rice self-sufficiency is seen as a realistic target, considering that rice stocks in early 2025 have increased significantly.
The abundant rice production at the beginning of this year is believed to be a strong capital in achieving rice self-sufficiency in 2025. However, if domestic production does not experience a significant increase, dependence on imports will re-emerge in the following year.
This challenge must be anticipated through policies that focus on increasing food production sustainably. The government has also begun to boost the agricultural sector through agricultural technology innovation and assistance programs for farmers to increase crop productivity.
In addition to the agricultural sector, the Prabowo-Gibran government is also paying serious attention to energy security. During the first 100 days, 37 electricity projects were inaugurated, including the construction of power plants, transmission lines, and substations in 18 provinces.
The project is a strategic step in ensuring an even distribution of electricity supply for industry and communities in remote areas. The existence of adequate electricity infrastructure will accelerate the economic growth of regions that previously had difficulty getting stable energy access.
President Prabowo emphasized that the development of electricity infrastructure has a crucial role in achieving energy self-sufficiency and supporting the growth of the national industry.
With the new generating capacity that has been operating reaching 3,222.75 MW, the electricity supply for the industrial sector is increasingly guaranteed. In addition, the potential for new renewable energy (EBT) continues to be developed to ensure the availability of reliable, clean, and affordable electricity. The government is also preparing incentives for investors in the EBT sector so that the acceleration of the energy transition can be realized immediately.
Transformation towards industrialization and downstreaming is a top priority in the Prabowo-Gibran government strategy. Energy independence is a vital factor in realizing this vision.
Therefore, policies that favor the processing of domestic natural resources continue to be strengthened in order to increase economic added value while opening up more jobs.
The sustainability of local resource-based industries is further strengthened by regulations that ensure that domestic raw materials can be optimally utilized to encourage the competitiveness of the national industry.
In the education sector, equal access for border communities is also a major concern. The People’s School Program initiated by President Prabowo received high appreciation as a concrete solution to overcoming the education gap in the outermost regions of Indonesia.
The Head of the Nunukan Regency Education Office, Akhmad, assessed that the program is very relevant in providing learning opportunities for children from underprivileged families, especially those living on the Indonesia-Malaysia border. The existence of quality schools in border areas is expected to be a solution to the lack of educational facilities in remote areas.
The People’s School is designed to function like a boarding school that not only provides free quality education, but also guarantees the nutritional needs of students.
The existence of this school is expected to have a positive impact on improving the quality of human resources, so that they can contribute to national development in the future. In addition, initiatives to strengthen vocational-based curriculum in border schools are also being carried out to ensure that graduates have skills that are ready to use in the world of work.
The Prabowo-Gibran government has shown seriousness in realizing economic equality across all levels of society. The strategic steps implemented in the first 100 days of leadership reflect a strong commitment to building a more independent and highly competitive Indonesia.
