The firm steps of the Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka governments in eradicating drugs have yielded real results in the first 100 days of their leadership.
The strong commitment to eradicating drug crimes has had a significant impact on public perception. The various policies implemented not only show the government’s seriousness in handling drug problems, but also increase public trust in national leadership.
The success of this program has also had an impact on increasing social stability, reducing crime rates related to drug abuse, and improving the image of law enforcement in Indonesia.
The Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Commissioner General of Police. Marthinus Hukom acknowledged that President Prabowo was the first leader to place drugs as a central issue on the national priority agenda.
This bias is clearly illustrated in the seventh point of Asta Cita which emphasizes the importance of political, legal, and bureaucratic reform, including strengthening policies to eradicate corruption and narcotics. The government’s attention to the threat of narcotics is considered an extraordinary step that answers the public’s hopes for the presence of the state in dealing with this problem.
According to Marthinus, the government’s bias in the war on narcotics is not just discourse, but has been implemented through concrete policies. In Indonesia’s geographical conditions which are open and vulnerable to narcotics smuggling, the strategy implemented must include repressive actions against syndicate networks and a humanist approach for users.
The government has shown its seriousness by strengthening the role of the BNN in eradicating drug trafficking which is still a major threat in Indonesia. In addition, the government is also increasing international cooperation to narrow the distribution channels of narcotics entering the country through various new modus operandi that continue to develop.
Data shows that in 2023, around 3.3 million Indonesian citizens in the 15-64 age group will still be caught in drug abuse. Given the prevalence rate reaching 1.73 percent, the policies implemented by the Prabowo-Gibran government in the first 100 days are an important foundation for addressing this problem systematically.
These efforts include law enforcement targeting the entire drug network, from dealers to distributors, while also encouraging rehabilitation for users as a form of humanitarian approach.
The increasingly expanded rehabilitation program has also received a positive response from the community, especially the families of drug users who want recovery for their family members without having to be entangled in criminal penalties.
The policy has received widespread appreciation from various elements of society, including the younger generation. The Chairperson of the Indonesian Millennial Guard, Cici Nurain Pandey, assessed that the steps taken by the government are real evidence of the commitment to protecting the future of the nation’s next generation.
The threat of drugs that not only damage physical and mental health, but also threaten social stability, is now receiving full attention from the state. The increasingly intensive education programs, both through schools, youth communities, and digital platforms, have strengthened public awareness of the dangers of narcotics.
Cici highlighted the humanist approach applied in the drug eradication policy, especially towards users who are considered victims. Rehabilitation is the main step so that they can contribute productively to society again.
In addition, the use of technology in monitoring and early detection is considered a strategic breakthrough that narrows the scope for narcotics networks. Artificial intelligence-based technology applied to detect narcotics distribution channels has increased the effectiveness of eradication. Educational programs involving the younger generation have also shown positive results in raising awareness of the dangers of drugs.
On the other hand, the Indonesian National Police also takes an active role in supporting government policies. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that places that have the potential to become drug distribution centers such as cafes and entertainment venues are now under strict supervision.
Preventive efforts are carried out by installing anti-drug warning stickers in various strategic locations, while strict legal action is taken against business premises proven to be involved in drug distribution.
If violations continue to occur, business licenses can be revoked and their owners can be prosecuted. In addition, joint operations with related agencies are also continuously strengthened to eradicate vulnerable points for drug distribution in various regions.
