Interfaith tolerance is the main foundation in creating comfort during the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration. In the diversity that is the identity of the nation, mutual respect between adherents of different religions is a determining factor in maintaining social harmony.
The celebration of Chinese New Year is not just a religious momentum for Confucians, but also reflects universal values such as compassion, peace, and togetherness that must always be maintained by the entire community.
Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that interfaith tolerance is the main key in creating peace and prosperity. When each individual practices the teachings of their religion well, social relations will be closer.
Closeness to one’s own religious teachings actually strengthens ties with other religions, because basically there are more similarities than differences in each religious teaching.
Maintaining the noble values taught by religious figures, such as Buddha Siddhartha Gautama, Prophet Jesus Christ, and Prophet Muhammad SAW, is a concrete step in building harmony in community life.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that Chinese New Year is not just a religious celebration, but also a means of reflection on the values of peace and social solidarity.
In a society rich in diversity, tolerance is an important element in building a peaceful nation. The close tolerance can be seen from the togetherness of various elements of society in maintaining the comfort of the Chinese New Year celebration, including active participation in securing places of worship such as monasteries and Chinese temples. The awareness to respect each other’s beliefs is a real manifestation of a tolerant attitude that must continue to be maintained and improved.
Puan highlighted that various religious celebrations are often moments that strengthen brotherhood between religious communities. The celebration of Chinese New Year is proof that Indonesia is able to maintain harmony in diversity.
The involvement of people from various backgrounds in maintaining security and order during the celebration shows that tolerance is not just a concept, but has become a real practice in everyday life. Mutual respect, listening, and cooperation are key to reducing potential conflicts that could arise due to differences.
In terms of security, Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helmy Santika ensured that security for places of worship during the Chinese New Year celebrations was optimal. All police ranks, supported by the TNI and various other stakeholders, worked together to keep the situation conducive.
The public is expected to participate in creating a safe and peaceful atmosphere by upholding tolerance between religious communities. This collective awareness is the main pillar in ensuring that the Chinese New Year celebrations run smoothly.
The Lampung Police deployed more than a thousand personnel to ensure that every worship procession runs smoothly and solemnly. This step reflects the strong commitment of the authorities in maintaining freedom of worship for all citizens.
In addition, community involvement in maintaining the comfort of the celebration is also real evidence that diversity can be a force that strengthens unity. Lampung, as a region with a high level of diversity, is expected to be an example for other provinces in upholding an attitude of tolerance and social harmony.
Chinese New Year is not only celebrated by Confucians, but is also part of the national culture that is respected by various levels of society. The diversity of cultures and religions in Indonesia must be used as the main capital in strengthening unity, not as a trigger for division. Creating a harmonious atmosphere during the Chinese New Year celebration is a shared responsibility so that every individual can feel comfort and peace without any disturbance.
Awareness of the importance of tolerance should not stop at certain religious celebrations. An attitude of mutual respect must continue to be fostered in everyday life. Building good communication, understanding differences without making them separators, and supporting each other in various aspects of life are concrete steps in maintaining national unity. By instilling a spirit of togetherness and social concern, every individual can participate in maintaining harmony in a pluralistic society.
Tolerance is not just a concept that is echoed, but must become a culture that continues to be maintained and passed on to the next generation. The 2025 Chinese New Year celebration is the right moment to further strengthen the spirit of togetherness in diversity.
