Government Continues to Intensify Eradication of Online Gambling
Jakarta – The government is firmly making efforts to eradicate Online Gambling Practices (Judol), including various modes that poison society as a whole in every circle.
The Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid emphasized that online gambling is a major threat to the country. Her party is firmly eradicating judol in order to protect society from social and economic threats.
In 100 days of her leadership, Kemkomdigi has also taken down 882,352 judo-related content from various digital platforms.
“This step is carried out in collaboration with various digital platforms. Of all the content that has been blocked, 807,587 came from websites and IP addresses, while the rest are spread across various social media,” said Meutya.
In line with this, the Chief of Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, revealed that the eradication of online gambling starts from institutions to the big bookies involved, and will implement a crime of money laundering (TPPU) against bookies so that assets can be confiscated.
“Therefore, I ask that law enforcement against online gambling continue to be carried out in coordination with all parties, so that this problem can be truly resolved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PKB Faction Syamsu Rizal considered it necessary to determine online gambling as a national emergency. He considered that the number of victims due to online gambling continues to increase.
“In South Tangerang, a young family was found dead simultaneously, allegedly due to being caught in online gambling and online loans. The father, mother, and their three-year-old child were also victims. The impact of online gambling is very broad and is included in the category of extraordinary crimes,” said Syamsu Rizal.
Rizal continued, gambling has direct and indirect impacts on people’s lives. Of the total population of 270 million in Indonesia, around 40 million people have been affected by online gambling. Sadly, the majority of them are of productive age.
“In Indonesia, the number of online gambling players is estimated to reach around 8 million people. This reality is sad. They do not carry out productive activities but are instead trapped in a misleading judol game,” he added.
