Government Not Afraid to Eradicate OPM, MBG Program Continues in Papua
PAPUA – The government confirmed that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program continues to run in Papua despite threats from the Free Papua Movement (OPM).
Security forces have also tightened security to ensure the safety of educators and students in the region.
Head of the Presidential Communications Office Hasan Nasbi confirmed that the OPM’s threats against schools receiving MBG benefits will not stop the program.
He ensured that the state is present in maintaining security and ensuring the welfare of the Papuan people.
“MBG is a universal program implemented throughout Indonesia, including in Papua. If there are threats like that, they will face the TNI/Polri,” said Hasan in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Minister of Defense (Menhan) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin also emphasized that the implementation of MBG in Papua will not be affected by political issues raised by certain groups.
He emphasized that the program is part of a humanitarian task that must be carried out without hindrance.
“Because the situation is not good, not conducive. So we need the kitchens to be worked on by the territorial task force of the Indonesian Army,” he said.
The government also continues to evaluate and refine the program to be more effective in providing benefits to the community.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Information Center (Kapuspen) Major General Hariyanto stated that the TNI has increased security in schools located in OPM-prone areas.
“Security of educational facilities, including schools in areas located in OPM-prone areas, is a serious concern for the TNI,” he said.
He also added that routine patrols have been increased and preventive measures continue to be taken to maintain security stability.
The government ensures that OPM terror will not hinder development efforts in Papua, including in terms of fulfilling nutrition for school children.
The synergy between the government, security forces, and the community continues to be strengthened to ensure the situation remains safe and conducive. (*)
