Drug trafficking in Indonesia is a serious problem that not only threatens public health, but also damages the social, economic, and cultural order of the nation. As a country that is trying to realize its great ideals, namely Golden Indonesia 2045, where Indonesia becomes a developed, competitive, and prosperous country, drug abuse cannot be allowed. This is because drugs not only affect individuals, but also erode the future of the nation. However, the government through various policies and concrete steps shows its commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in order to create an Indonesia free from the threat of drugs.

One of the real steps taken by the government is through synergistic efforts between various agencies involved in eradicating drugs. In early January 2025, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) together with the Provincial BNN, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), and the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) succeeded in uncovering 11 narcotics cases and arresting 44 suspects. In the operation, 60.19 kilograms of narcotics were successfully secured. Deputy for Eradication of BNN, Inspector General of Police. I Wayan Sugiri said that this achievement is real evidence of the increasingly solid synergy between agencies in eradicating narcotics trafficking in Indonesia.

This major operation is one example of the government’s seriousness in dealing with the threat of drugs that have troubled society for years. Not only limited to enforcement, but also shows that the government has a strong commitment to protecting Indonesia’s young generation from the dangers of drugs. This synergy between agencies is important because the drug problem cannot be solved by one agency alone. Collaboration is needed between BNN, Police, Customs, Immigration, and other institutions to tackle the very complex and organized drug trafficking network.

In addition to enforcement, the government is also committed to implementing a more holistic policy in dealing with drug problems, as conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ribka Haluk, who emphasized the importance of a cross-sectoral approach in dealing with drug problems. This is very relevant considering that drugs are a multidimensional problem, which is not only related to law enforcement, but also to education, economy, health, and social. Therefore, the implementation of the Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs (Permendagri) which supports drug eradication efforts is a strategic step to create a conducive ecosystem in combating drug trafficking.

In this context, synergy between the central government, regional governments, and related parties is also very much needed. One form of this contribution is through programs implemented by Badak LNG. Badak LNG, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) which operates under the Pertamina Upstream Subholding, holds Technical Guidance (BIMTEK) for Narcotics Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) Prevention and Eradication Activists.

Vice President of Business Support Badak LNG, Ichsan Maulana, emphasized that the company has a responsibility to support the vision of Indonesia Bersih Narkoba (Bersinar). Badak LNG held a Technical Guidance (BIMTEK) activity aimed at creating a drug-free work environment. This program not only focuses on workers, but also includes work partners and workers’ families. This initiative shows that Badan LGN strongly supports the government’s efforts to create a healthy and drug-free environment.

Collaboration between the government and BUMN subsidiaries is very crucial, considering that drugs are not only a problem among individuals, but also have the potential to damage the world of work and the economy. Through programs such as BIMTEK implemented by Badak LNG, it is hoped that a more productive, safe, and healthy work environment can be created, as well as being an example for other companies to play a role in eradicating drugs.

In addition, the role of the community is no less important in supporting the government’s efforts. The government cannot work alone in realizing a Golden Indonesia free of drugs. Support from the community is very much needed, both in the form of awareness not to get involved with drugs and active participation in prevention programs. In this case, education and socialization about the dangers of drugs must be increasingly encouraged in all levels of society, both in schools, campuses, and workplaces. With collective awareness, drug trafficking can be suppressed, and a drug-free environment will be increasingly realized.
