Through the Free Nutritious Meal Program, the Government Supports a Sustainable Economy
Jakarta – The Indonesian government through the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program seeks to support a sustainable economy by alleviating poverty and strengthening the regional economy.
Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, Agus Jabo Priyono, said that this program not only aims to prepare the Golden Generation of 2045, but also to trigger economic dynamics in villages. With a flow of funds of around IDR 6 billion to IDR 7 billion, this program is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy.
“In addition to preparing the Golden Generation of 2045, this program is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy,” said Agus.
Agus emphasized that poverty alleviation is a top priority for President Prabowo Subianto. The MBG program, which ensures the fulfillment of nutrition for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children, also drives the economy to remote villages.
“The MBG program will play an important role in reducing poverty rates by having a direct impact on the regional economy,” he said.
In addition, Agus also focused on empowering poor people to be independent and empowered and invited the community to work together to overcome poverty.
“We will facilitate them with access to jobs and businesses, including cooperatives and MSMEs. Let’s realize a just, prosperous, and independent Indonesia,” he added.
Special Advisor to the President for Economic Affairs, Bambang Brodjonegoro, stated that MBG and the construction of three million houses for low-income people are the hope for Indonesia’s economic growth in 2025. With global economic uncertainty, Bambang emphasized the importance of relying on the local economy.
“What is important is that the execution of these two programs must be visible this year, because if it can be done this year with relatively better execution, then a multiplier effect will begin to emerge,” he said.
Bambang also revealed that the property sector, including housing construction, has a broad and even economic impact.
“So if the government can execute any number (of houses built) from this low-cost housing program, it will be very helpful, at least it can contribute to (economic) growth in 2025,” concluded Bambang.
The MBG program is expected to be a local economic engine by involving local food producers, while strict supervision will ensure the quality and safety of this program.
