Government Encourages Downstreaming for National Economic Equity
Jakarta – The government continues to encourage downstreaming as the main strategy in national economic equity. President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that downstreaming and industrialization projects will soon begin on a large scale to increase the added value of domestic natural resources.
“This step is not only important for national progress, but also has a significant impact on the global economy,” said President Prabowo.
In supporting the downstreaming policy, the government is implementing budget efficiency to fund priority projects. Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that efficiency in various sectors has created sufficient fiscal space to support industrialization.
“Budget efficiency has been a priority since October 2024, with savings of IDR 3.6 trillion from the state budget. Cuts are made in various sectors, including official travel and other operational expenses,” said Sri Mulyani.
In addition, the government is committed to providing electricity access to all corners of the country as part of efforts to achieve economic equality. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said that thousands of villages and hundreds of sub-districts still do not have electricity.
“In the next five years, the government has allocated around IDR 48 trillion to overcome this problem. This step is realistic thanks to the budget efficiency that has been carried out,” said Bahlil.
Downstreaming is also considered a strategic solution in increasing the added value of natural resources and creating quality jobs. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani emphasized that this policy can optimize Indonesia’s demographic bonus.
“The demographic bonus that we have is a great opportunity to drive the economy. However, improving the quality of human resources is the main key so that this opportunity does not turn into a challenge,” said Rosan at the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
The government is also using WEF 2025 to attract foreign investment to support the national economic transformation. The Indonesian Pavilion at the forum is used to promote various investment opportunities to world economic leaders.
“The downstreaming policy and the government’s commitment to sustainable development are the main attractions for global investors. We continue to establish strategic cooperation to accelerate economic growth,” said Rosan.
With this step, the government is optimistic that downstreaming will be the main driver in economic equality. Downstreaming not only opens up new jobs, but also increases the competitiveness of the national industry. This policy is expected to be able to bring Indonesia towards the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045 with a stronger and more equitable economy.
