Subsidized Fertilizer in the Era of President Prabowo to Increase Agricultural Productivity
JAKARTA – The government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto has officially stipulated Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 6 of 2025 concerning the Management of Subsidized Fertilizer.
One of the important points in this regulation is the inclusion of organic fertilizer as part of the fertilizer that receives subsidies from the government.
“Types of subsidized fertilizers include urea fertilizer, NPK fertilizer, organic fertilizer, SP-36 fertilizer, and ZA fertilizer,” reads Article 6 paragraph (1) of the Perpres.
When compared to Perpres Number 15 of 2011 signed by the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, there are significant changes in the list of subsidized fertilizers.
In the previous regulation, subsidized fertilizers only included urea, SP-36, ZA, and NPK without organic fertilizers.
Now, in the era of President Prabowo, organic fertilizers have been added to the list of subsidized fertilizers.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, emphasized that this policy is expected to increase agricultural productivity.
He explained important changes in the fertilizer subsidy mechanism.
“President Prabowo uses a fertilizer volume quota, not a budget quota as before. So, if the price of fertilizer raw materials increases, it will not be a problem,” explained Sudaryono.
The need for subsidized fertilizer in 2025 is estimated to reach 9.5 million tons. Sudaryono is optimistic that fertilizer distribution will run smoothly.
“We have submitted a list of recipients of subsidized fertilizer as of December 2024, so that since January 1, 2025 all kiosks will have fertilizer stock,” he said.
He also emphasized that he would take firm action against retailers or farmer groups who play around with the distribution of subsidized fertilizer.
Petrokimia Gresik as part of the Pupuk Indonesia holding fully supports this policy.
Petrokimia Gresik President Director, Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, emphasized that his party continues to maintain the availability of subsidized fertilizers for Indonesian farmers to support the food self-sufficiency program targeted in 2027.
“Petrokimia Gresik has distributed 981,705 tons of subsidized fertilizers during the first 100 days of the Prabowo-Gibran administration,” said Dwi Satriyo.
Dwi Satriyo also explained that the simplification of regulations carried out by the government has greatly helped the smooth distribution of fertilizers.
“Farmers can now directly redeem subsidized fertilizers since January 1, 2025 without having to wait for the Governor’s or Regent’s Decree,” he explained.
He hopes that farmers can make optimal use of subsidized fertilizers to increase agricultural productivity.
“Let’s work together to realize the Asta Cita of the Prabowo-Gibran administration in achieving national food self-sufficiency,” he concluded.
