Drug abuse is one of the major problems faced by many countries in the world. In Indonesia, the drug problem has become a serious threat to the safety and welfare of society. As an effort to overcome this problem, the Indonesian government continues to strengthen and optimize aspects of law enforcement in facing increasingly sophisticated drug networks. Effective law enforcement is expected to reduce the negative impacts caused by drug trafficking, as well as create a safer and healthier environment for society.

Indonesia has long struggled to overcome the rampant drug trafficking throughout the country. International drug networks working together with local syndicates are a major challenge for law enforcement officers. In recent decades, drug trafficking has become increasingly massive, with various types of narcotics entering Indonesia via land, sea, and air.

Drug use in Indonesia is not only limited to teenagers, but also extends to various levels of society. Drug abuse has affected the mental and physical health of its users, as well as caused enormous social and economic losses. Therefore, strong and synergistic law enforcement between various government institutions, law enforcement officers, and the community is key to combating drug networks.

The Indonesian government has made various efforts to combat drug abuse, both through policies, regulations, and stricter law enforcement measures. One important step taken is the establishment of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), which is tasked with coordinating various prevention, eradication, rehabilitation, and policy-making activities related to drugs. BNN collaborates with other agencies, such as the police, TNI, and prosecutors, to strengthen law enforcement.

BNN has also collaborated with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to agree to charge drug dealers with money laundering (TPPU) crimes. The Head of BNN, Commissioner General of Police Marthinus Hukom, said that so far drug dealers have absorbed public money and used it to expand their illicit businesses.

Marthinus emphasized that drug crimes not only have an impact on public health and security, but also have a very large economic dimension. Therefore, eradication efforts are not only carried out by breaking the drug distribution network, but also by tracing and cutting off the flow of funds that support the illegal business.

In addition, strong and effective law enforcement is an important factor in eradicating drugs. Without strict law enforcement, various prevention and rehabilitation efforts will find it difficult to achieve optimal results. Law enforcement that is not only repressive, but also preventive and rehabilitative, is expected to have a more significant impact in the long term.

Batubara Police held a press conference at the Narcotics Unit Headquarters, Jalan P. Kemerdekaan, Lima Puluh. Batubara Police Chief, AKBP Taufik Hidayat Tayeb, S.H., S.I.K., M.M. said that his party will continue to be committed to eradicating drug trafficking in its jurisdiction. He also explained the chronology of the arrests and the evidence that was successfully secured.

Eradicating drugs is not only the responsibility of the government and law enforcement officers alone, but also involves the active role of the community. Synergy between the government, society, and the private sector is needed to create a drug-free environment.

Education and socialization about the dangers of drugs need to be carried out massively, especially among the younger generation. In addition, the community also needs to be given an understanding of the importance of reporting suspicious activities related to drug trafficking. Thus, the community can be the front guard in fighting drug networks.

Strict law enforcement against drug perpetrators must be balanced with rehabilitation efforts for drug users. Effective rehabilitation can help drug abusers return to a better life, as well as reduce the number of drug dependencies in the community.

In addition, prevention programs that involve various levels of society also need to be strengthened. Counseling about the dangers of drugs and prevention efforts must be carried out continuously, both through the mass media, formal education, and training for the general public. With proper prevention, it is hoped that the number of drug abuse can continue to decline.
