Without Sacrificing the Future, the Government Implements Education-Friendly State Budget Efficiency
JAKARTA – The government ensures that the efficiency of the State Budget (APBN) remains friendly to the education sector without sacrificing the future of the nation’s generations.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) guarantees that priority education programs will continue to run in order to maintain the quality and sustainability of the national education system.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, emphasized that the provision of social assistance through the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP) for elementary to vocational high school students will continue to be fulfilled.
In addition, allowances for non-ASN teachers in public and private schools will also remain available in the 2025 budget allocation.
“We ensure that efficiency measures continue to pay attention to the sustainability of education programs and the welfare of educators,” said Abdul Mu’ti
In line with Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 1 of 2025, Kemendikdasmen is adjusting the budget from IDR 33.5 trillion to IDR 26.27 trillion without disrupting education services.
Abdul Mu’ti added that the adjusted budget can still be discussed further to support other strategic programs.
Chairperson of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Hetifah Sjaifudian, appreciated the steps taken by the Ministry of Education and Culture in ensuring that the education budget is maintained.
“Earlier it was explained that ASN spending was saved, Social Assistance including PIP could be saved from cuts, contracts and ongoing goods spending were ensured to continue. The President’s Priority Programs have been allocated,” he said.
Prabowo Subianto’s Spokesperson, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, emphasized that APBN efficiency was not carried out haphazardly and would not affect scholarships or the welfare of teaching staff.
“Efficiency is only carried out on inappropriate budget allocations and is not directly related to public services or HR,” he explained in a post on X,
With this policy, the government guarantees that budget efficiency will not sacrifice the future of national education.
However, it is a strategic step to ensure the sustainability of priority programs and improve the quality of education in Indonesia. (*)
