Appreciation of the Role of MSMEs in Encouraging the Development of the National Creative Industry

Jakarta,– The role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in encouraging the national creative industry is increasingly receiving attention. MSMEs contribute greatly to preserving local culture and developing innovations that are able to compete in the global market.

Support for MSMEs is an important factor in strengthening the economy and opening up business opportunities.

Corporate Secretary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), Vita Mahreyni, appreciates the creativity of MSMEs in adapting traditional fabrics or Indonesian wastra into modern fashion.

“Indonesian wastra is not just fabric, but also the identity and pride of the nation. The creativity of MSMEs fostered by SIG in combining Indonesian wastra with modern fashion trends is expected to foster a sense of pride and attract the interest of the community, especially the younger generation,” she said.

Support for MSMEs is also in line with efforts to increase the competitiveness of local products. With coaching, training, and wider marketing access, MSMEs have the opportunity to strengthen their existence in the domestic and international markets.

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, emphasized the importance of synergy between BUMN and MSMEs in strengthening the national economy.

“BUMN does not only focus on corporate growth, but also helps MSMEs to grow and become more resilient in the national and international markets,” he said.

Director General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Fajarini Puntodewi revealed the potential for transactions from business exploration (business matching) for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“In January 2025, the business matching that we conducted recorded encouraging results with a potential transaction reaching USD 5.22 million. This value consists of purchase transactions of USD 1.55 million and potential transactions in the form of memorandums of understanding (MoU) of USD 3.67 million,” said Puntodewi.

Support for MSMEs is realized through various initiatives, ranging from training and mentoring to marketing facilitation and digital access. With this strategy, MSMEs can increase their competitiveness and develop more innovative and value-added products.

In addition, collaboration with academics and designers is expected to strengthen innovation in the national creative industry. The use of digital technology and e-commerce is key to expanding the reach of the MSME product market to the global level.

As public awareness of the importance of local products increases, support from the public and private sectors is increasingly crucial. Programs such as creative communities, product exhibitions, and digital platforms are expected to expand MSME access to develop and be competitive. With this strategy, MSMEs will not only become drivers of the national economy but also icons of national pride.
