Appreciating the Government’s Smart Strategy to Accelerate National Economic Equity

Economic equality is one of the main challenges in national development. The disparity between urban and rural areas, as well as between developed and underdeveloped regions, often becomes an obstacle to inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The government, through various strategic policies, continues to strive to accelerate economic equality throughout Indonesia in order to create equitable prosperity for all people. One concrete step in the effort to achieve economic equality is the transformation of the regional economy.

The Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Bali Province, I Wayan Wiasthana Ika Putra, emphasized that his party is accelerating economic equality between the northern and southern regions in order to encourage inclusive economic growth. In the 2018 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD), Bali targets to become a new economic center that continues to grow by involving various leading sectors.

This effort shows that each region has economic potential that must be optimized. With careful planning and effective execution, regional economic transformation can become a main pillar in national economic equality. This strategy is also in line with the central government’s vision in strengthening the region-based economy to reduce inequality between provinces.

One important element in the economic equality strategy is the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Deputy Minister of MSMEs, Helvi Moraza, emphasized that MSMEs play a major role in accelerating economic equality. According to him, superior MSMEs must be involved in various strategic government programs so that they can develop and contribute more to the national economy.

The government has taken concrete steps by providing wider access to capital for MSMEs, supporting business digitalization, and integrating MSMEs into the national industrial supply chain. With more competitive MSMEs, economic opportunities in various regions will be more open, thereby reducing the economic gap between regions.

In addition, strengthening MSMEs also contributes to improving the welfare of people in the regions. By providing incentives to small and medium businesses and opening wider market access, the government ensures that the benefits of economic growth can be felt by all levels of society.

The government also realizes that accessibility is a key factor in economic equality. President Director of PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA), Agung Budi Waskito, said that the construction of the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road is a real example of how infrastructure can open access to isolated areas, create new economic opportunities, and increase supply chain efficiency.

This toll road is expected to accelerate economic growth in the Central Banten to South Banten regions, as well as reduce economic disparities with North Banten. With adequate infrastructure, investment will be easier to enter previously underdeveloped areas, thus strengthening the competitiveness of the region with other provinces.

In addition to the construction of toll roads, the government also continues to develop other infrastructure such as ports, airports, and public transportation networks to ensure smoother connectivity between regions. This step is in line with the current government’s grand vision to create equitable and sustainable economic growth.

The government is not only focused on physical development, but also developing policies that support economic equality in the long term. Programs such as Village Funds, People’s Business Credit (KUR), and various fiscal incentives for investment in the regions are real evidence of the government’s commitment to creating a more inclusive economy.

In addition, collaboration between the central and regional governments is also being strengthened. With good synergy, policies that have been designed at the national level can be implemented more effectively in the regions, so that the benefits can be felt in real terms by the wider community.

Economic equality is not a goal that can be achieved overnight. However, with various strategic policies that have been implemented, Indonesia is on the right track towards more equitable and sustainable economic growth. Regional economic transformation, empowerment of MSMEs, infrastructure development, and strong commitment from the government are the main foundations in realizing this grand vision.

The public needs to continue to trust the current government in its efforts to create equitable prosperity. With the support and active participation of all elements of the nation, we can together build a more inclusive, advanced, and highly competitive Indonesia on the global stage.
