Free Nutritious Meals: Government’s Commitment to Realizing the Golden Future of the Young Generation
By: Ricky Rinaldi
The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto is not just an ordinary food aid program. This is a major movement to create a younger generation that is healthier, smarter, and ready to face future challenges. With the aim of providing access to nutritious food to all Indonesian children, this program is expected to be able to significantly reduce stunting and micronutrient deficiencies.
The Head of BPOM, Prof. Dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., MD., emphasized that his party is fully committed to ensuring the safety and quality of food distributed in this program. BPOM not only carries out strict supervision, but also provides training to distribution workers so that food safety standards are maintained. With this approach, BPOM plays a role as the vanguard in maintaining the sustainability and effectiveness of the MBG program.
The success of this program cannot be separated from the role of various institutions, one of which is the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). Hasan Nasbi, who currently serves as the Head of the Presidential Communications Office of the Republic of Indonesia, assessed that BPOM has a very crucial role in maintaining the sustainability of this program. BPOM immediately intervenes when there are obstacles, ensuring that repairs are carried out immediately. In addition, he also added that BPOM’s role is not only in supervision, but also in supporting the training of volunteers involved in food distribution.
This training aims to ensure that food safety procedures are implemented correctly, so that the quality of the food consumed is maintained. He assessed BPOM’s support in this program as an important step in overcoming child nutrition problems, including preventing stunting and micronutrient deficiencies in Indonesia.
In a hearing between BPOM and the DPR which took place on February 12, 2025, Prof. Dr. Taruna Ikrar emphasized his support for the MBG program initiated by President Prabowo. He stated that this program is a strategic step in improving the quality of Indonesia’s human resources through improving nutrition from an early age.
By ensuring nutritious food intake for the younger generation, it is hoped that they can grow and develop optimally, thus creating a competitive golden generation in the future. In addition, Taruna Ikrar also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government, supervisory institutions, and the community in making this program a success. According to him, without support from various parties, the government’s efforts to provide free nutritious food for all Indonesian children will not run optimally.
The government continues to be committed to ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of the MBG program through various strict policies and regulations. One of the steps taken is the implementation of a technology-based monitoring system to monitor the distribution and quality of food distributed to various regions. With this system, any potential problems can be detected early and immediately followed up.
On the other hand, the government is also collaborating with various parties, including the private sector and non-governmental organizations, to support the smooth running of this program. The involvement of the private sector in providing high-quality food ingredients is one of the keys to maintaining the quality of food given to Indonesian children. In addition, community involvement in monitoring and reporting any obstacles that occur in the field is also highly expected.
The MBG program is not only about providing free food, but also changing people’s mindsets about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. With full support from the government, Indonesian children now have a greater opportunity to get quality nutritional intake. This program is real proof that the government cares about the future of the nation and wants to ensure that every child grows up healthy and smart.
The government has designed this program with a mature strategy, including ensuring that food distribution runs smoothly throughout Indonesia, even to remote areas. With the collaboration of various parties, including BPOM and related institutions, this distribution process continues to be strengthened to ensure that the quality of food is maintained until it reaches the hands of beneficiaries. Every step taken aims to provide a real positive impact on society, while also proving that the government is present in every aspect of its people’s lives.
