President Prabowo Affirms Fund Flow Tracing and Strengthens Commitment to Eradicate Online Gambling
Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating the increasingly rampant practice of online gambling. Prabowo requested that efforts to eradicate online gambling be strengthened by tracing the flow of funds to its international network.
Head of the Presidential Communications Office Hasan Nasbi revealed that the government is not only focused on blocking online gambling sites and applications, but also tracing the sources of funding used in their operations.
“Earlier, you asked for that, so the war against online gambling is strengthened again. Not only taking down sites and applications. But now the payment gateway is also being traced, the flow of money, that is being traced. This is a serious war from the government against online gambling,” said Hasan.
Hasan added that efforts to eradicate online gambling also involve cooperation with various countries to suppress the existence of online gambling operators based abroad.
“Including cooperation with various countries to overcome this, so it’s not just Indonesia alone. But there is also cooperation with various countries,” he explained.
As part of a strategic step, President Prabowo has also inaugurated Nugroho Sulistyo Budi as Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) replacing Hinsa Siburian. Nugroho, who has a background in the Indonesian Army and once served as the Chief Inspector of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), has been given a special task in strengthening the country’s cyber security system, including in eradicating online gambling.
Nugroho emphasized that eradicating online gambling is one of the priorities that has been directly instructed by the President.
“Moreover, the president’s emphasis on this judol problem is a very serious matter, even across countries, so we are trying to design the right strategy for all integrated lines from related ministries/institutions,” said Nugroho.
In addition to focusing on online gambling, BSSN will also strengthen the protection of people’s personal data. Nugroho emphasized the importance of public awareness in maintaining data security in order to prevent cybercrime, such as phishing and social engineering which are often used by online criminals.
With these concrete steps, the government confirms its seriousness in taking firm action against online gambling practices that have disturbed the public and harmed the national economy.
