Food Prices Tightly Monitored, Government Ensures Stability Until Eid 2025

JAKARTA – The government continues to tighten supervision of food prices to ensure price stability during Ramadan until Eid 2025.

Various strategic steps have been prepared, including cross-ministerial collaboration and the implementation of market operations to keep prices under control below the Highest Retail Price (HET).

The Deputy for Coordination of Information and Communication Evaluation of the Presidential Communications Office, Fritz Edward Siregar, emphasized that the government is committed to suppressing the prices of staple foods, especially cooking oil and sugar.

“The government is oriented towards lowering the prices of staple food commodities needed by the community, especially cooking oil and sugar. If there is a spike, then market operations will be carried out immediately,” said Fritz.

Fritz added that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered related ministries and institutions to work together to ensure prices remain below the HET.

“The Ministry of Agriculture is working with the Ministry of SOEs to ensure prices remain below the HET. If there is a surge, then the related ministries and SOEs will move to support each other,” he explained.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman gave a stern warning to entrepreneurs who do not comply with the rules on selling basic commodities according to the HET.

He emphasized that companies that violate risk being sealed or having their permits revoked.

“Don’t let all basic commodities exceed the HET that has been determined,” said Amran firmly.

“Therefore, please from the Head of the Food Task Force, the Head of the Intelligence and Security Agency, so that the HET and market operations are properly monitored because this is an order from the commander in chief, President Prabowo Subianto,” he added.

“If there are any violations, we will ensure that action will be taken and even business permits will be revoked,” said the Minister of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri stated that market operations are part of the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability and stability of food prices during Ramadan.

“We from the Ministry of Trade fully support market operations as a form of lowering prices and stabilizing prices while responding to the complaints of mothers in facing Ramadan and Eid,” he said.

The government is determined to keep food prices stable through strict supervision and targeted intervention so that people can carry out their religious duties in peace without worrying about spikes in the prices of basic necessities. (*)
