Government Plan to Issue Government Regulation to Eradicate Online Gambling Flooded with Support
Jakarta – The government is increasingly aggressive in eradicating online gambling which is increasingly disturbing the public. One of the concrete steps that will be taken soon is the issuance of a Government Regulation (PP) as a legal umbrella in cracking down on online gambling.
President Prabowo Subianto has given firm direction in a Limited Meeting with the Red and White Cabinet to accelerate the preparation of this regulation.
The Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Meutya Hafid, emphasized that the government will not provide loopholes for online gambling practices that continue to grow.
“One of the strategic steps that will be taken soon is the issuance of regulations in the form of Government Regulations (PP) that regulate more firmly and comprehensively,” said Meutya.
In addition to the preparation of the PP, Komdigi has also implemented a digital security system called SAMAN (Content Moderation Compliance System). This system ensures that digital platforms are required to take down online gambling content quickly and without compromise.
“We have implemented the SAMAN system which requires digital platforms to move quickly. If content related to online gambling or child pornography is found, they must immediately take it down without compromise,” explained Meutya.
This step was not only taken by Komdigi. The government also collaborated with the Police, the Attorney General’s Office, and related institutions to tighten law enforcement. President Prabowo Subianto instructed that action against online gambling perpetrators should not only be limited to blocking sites, but must also target their networks and funding systems.
“This is a direct order, not just discourse,” said Meutya.
Support for the issuance of this PP also came from various parties, including the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia. Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono or who is familiarly called Ibas, considered this step as a real effort to combat online gambling.
“We also need a massive commitment from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto. He said that a presidential regulation or government regulation regarding the action against online gambling would be issued as one of the strategic steps. Hopefully it will be a foundation for us to take action and enforce,” said Ibas when opening a seminar entitled Bangkitkan #SadarDigital: Fight Online Gambling and Illegal Online Loans, Save the Future of Our Generation! in Jakarta,
According to Ibas, the fight against online gambling must be realized through real steps and synergy between related institutions.
“With heavier penalties, stricter supervision, increased digital literacy, and collaboration between the DPR, government, law enforcement, and the community,” he added.
