The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program initiated by the government has received appreciation from various friendly countries and foreign investors. This program is considered a progressive step in improving the quality of community nutrition, reducing stunting rates, and encouraging the development of higher quality human resources (HR). Support from various domestic and foreign parties shows that this initiative is not only relevant for Indonesia, but also an example of an effective social policy in creating a healthier and more productive generation.
The government of President Prabowo launched the Free Nutritious Meals Program as a concrete effort to improve the nutritional intake of the community, especially for school children, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups. This policy aims to ensure that every individual, especially the younger generation, gets sufficient nutrition to support optimal growth and development.
Spokesperson for the Presidential Communications Office, Hariqo Wibawa, said that in its implementation, the free nutritious meal program prioritizes local food ingredients that are healthy, fresh, and have high nutritional value. The government also collaborates with various parties, including farmers, fishermen, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to ensure a sustainable supply chain and at the same time improve the local economy. Thus, the benefits of this program are not only felt by recipients of nutritious food, but also by the community involved in the production and distribution chain.
The success of this program in overcoming nutritional problems has attracted the attention of various friendly countries and foreign investors. They see this program as a real step in building food security and improving the quality of life of the community. A number of countries have even provided support in both technical and financial forms to expand the scope of this program.
Charge d’Affaires (CDA) of the Polish Embassy in Indonesia, Maciej Tumulec, said that this policy is in line with the global program to reduce malnutrition rates and improve community welfare. Poland itself has experience in nutritious food programs for school children, and is ready to share knowledge and technology to support the sustainability of this program in Indonesia.
On the other hand, a number of foreign investors from the agribusiness and food technology sectors have begun to show interest in investing in the healthy food supply chain in Indonesia. They see great potential in this sector, especially in the development of nutritious food innovations and more efficient distribution management. Support from the private sector is expected to strengthen the sustainability of the free nutritious meal program and ensure the availability of healthy food for the wider community.
In addition to health benefits, the Free Nutritious Meal program also has a positive impact on the national economy. By empowering local farmers, fishermen, and MSMEs, this program creates a more inclusive economic ecosystem. The increasing demand for local food ingredients also drives the productivity of the agricultural and fisheries sectors, which ultimately contributes to economic growth at the regional level.
Founder of Kami UMKM, Muhammad Arbani said that his party is very optimistic that economic growth of 8 percent can be achieved, because the MBG program involves Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Therefore, the MBG program must be protected because it can provide fresh air for MSME actors who are truly credible and massively involved by the government.
Furthermore, this program also creates new jobs in various sectors, from food production to distribution and provision of food services. This is proof that social welfare-based policies not only focus on aspects of public health, but are also able to provide broad economic impacts.
Although this program has received much appreciation, there are several challenges that must be faced in its implementation. One of them is ensuring even distribution to all regions, including remote areas. The government continues to strive to develop a more efficient logistics system so that all people can feel the benefits of this program.
In addition, the sustainability of this program is also a major concern. For this reason, the government is opening up opportunities for cooperation with various parties, both domestic and international, to strengthen funding and program management in the long term.
