Collaboration between the Police and the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections Increases Efforts to Eradicate Corruption
Jakarta – In a strategic effort to improve security and order in the Correctional Institution (Lapas) environment, the Chief of Police, General of Police Drs. Listyo Sigit Prabowo received an audience with the Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas), Agus Andrianto and his ministerial staff.
The meeting that took place was an important momentum to strengthen the synergy between the Police and Imipas in overcoming the problem of drug trafficking which increasingly threatens the rehabilitation process in the Prison.
On that occasion, the Minister of Imipas expressed his concern regarding the increasing illicit drug trafficking in the prison environment.
“The raids that we are conducting need support from the ranks of the Police, because our personnel are very limited,” said Minister Agus Andrianto firmly.
He added that this collaboration is in line with the government’s efforts to realize the President’s Asta Cita, namely the eradication of drug trafficking as a whole, especially in the correctional environment.
The latest data reveals that 313 prisoners have been transferred to the Nusa Kambangan Maximum Security Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) because they are suspected of being involved in controlling drug trafficking in the prison. The transfer is expected to be an initial initiative to suppress the rate of drug trafficking and increase the effectiveness of coaching inmates.
In addition, Minister Agus also conveyed innovative programs that have been prepared in Nusakambangan, including food security activities which are expected to become models for coaching and training for prisoners.
The program includes the development of integrated fisheries, agriculture, and livestock sectors, as well as plans to develop shrimp farming as a superior innovation to support prison independence.
In addition to discussing operations, the meeting also highlighted the issuance of a circular instructing all prisons to implement cooperative actions with law enforcement officers in investigating drug crimes.
This circular is designed to encourage a rapid response and synergy between agencies, so that preventive measures can be implemented effectively. Minister Agus emphasized the importance of building close relations between prison officers and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) so that law enforcement is increasingly optimal and integrated.
The Chief of Police stated that the Police are ready to provide full support in anti-drug operations in the prison environment.
“Regarding raids in prisons, we are ready to provide 24/7 support. We will also conduct an evaluation in the next three months regarding the transfer of prisoners to Nusakambangan, with the hope that the graph of drug distribution can decrease significantly,” he said.
This intensive collaboration between the Police and Imipas reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining national security and creating a prison environment that is conducive to the rehabilitation process. This synergy is expected to not only reduce the number of drug trafficking, but also improve the quality of guidance for prisoners, so that they can get the opportunity to start a new chapter that is more productive and has integrity.
