Getting Stronger! Public Support for Drug Eradication Increases
Jakarta – Efforts to eradicate drugs in Indonesia are increasingly receiving serious attention from various parties. Collaboration between government institutions, law enforcement, and the private sector is expected to strengthen strategic steps in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotics which is increasingly disturbing the community.
Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Ahmad Sahroni, expressed his support for the collaboration between the Police and the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) in eradicating drug trafficking in correctional institutions (prisons).
He emphasized the importance of realizing this collaboration to improve prisons which are often hotbeds of drug control.
“Commission III hopes that this collaboration between the Police and the Ministry of Imipas will be realized soon, especially to improve prisons,” said Sahroni on Monday, February 17, 2025.
In addition, Sahroni emphasized that prisons should be a place for criminals to improve themselves, not a “safe space” to continue criminal activities. He also reminded that supervision should not only be focused on prisoners, but also on prison officers who are involved must be given appropriate punishment.
“We must prove that the state is always firm in taking action and fostering perpetrators of crimes,” he said.
On the other hand, the Head of the Anti-Narcotics Care Movement (GPAN), Mursidin, SH, called on private companies to support the drug prevention program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto. GPAN expressed its full support for the President’s 7 Desk program which focuses on eradicating and preventing drugs throughout Indonesia.
“Indonesia is currently in a drug emergency. Since the era of President Jokowi, the war against drugs has been launched. Now, under the leadership of President Prabowo, drug prevention is one of the main priorities in the 7 Desk program, which must be supported by the entire community, including the private sector,” said Mursidin.
Mursidin emphasized that private companies have a social responsibility in supporting government programs related to drug eradication, especially because they employ many employees. Therefore, every company must have an early detection system to prevent drug trafficking and abuse in the work environment.
“GPAN Indonesia fully supports the 7 Desk program initiated by President Prabowo. All components of the nation must be involved and contribute to eradicating drugs. We also ask the government to require every company to be free from the latent dangers of drugs,” he said.
In addition, Mursidin highlighted the lack of government attention to drug victims spread across various regions in Indonesia. He assessed that until now, the government’s program has not fully accommodated the social rights of drug victims who need attention and rehabilitation.
“We hope the government will pay more attention to drug victims, because they also have the right to receive adequate social support and rehabilitation,” he added.
GPAN Indonesia emphasized that it will continue to monitor and support government policies in the war on drugs and ensure that private companies play an active role in preventing and eradicating narcotics in Indonesia.
Collaboration between the government, law enforcement, and the private sector is expected to strengthen drug eradication efforts in Indonesia. With a shared commitment, the illicit trafficking of narcotics can be suppressed, and the Indonesian people can be free from the threat of drug dangers.
