The government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that there is no room for amnesty for perpetrators of corruption and drug dealers. This commitment is part of a firm step in enforcing the law and maintaining the integrity of governance. President Prabowo has highlighted that the level of corruption in Indonesia is at an alarming level and must be addressed with a bold and structured approach.

The President’s statement was delivered at the World Government Summit forum in Dubai, where he emphasized that corruption is the root of various problems that hinder progress in various sectors, including education and research. The increase in Indonesia’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) from 34 in 2023 to 37 in 2024 shows improvement, but is still far from expectations. Therefore, the government ensures that eradicating corruption is the main agenda that will continue to be strengthened with various policies and concrete actions.

In line with the President’s direction, Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas emphasized that there is no amnesty for drug dealers and perpetrators of corruption. This statement answers concerns from several parties regarding the possibility of an amnesty policy that could weaken efforts to eradicate these extraordinary crimes. Supratman explained that amnesty is only given to prisoners with certain criteria, such as violators of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE) related to insulting the head of state, drug users with evidence of less than one gram, and prisoners who suffer from mental disorders or long-term illnesses.
The decision not to grant amnesty to corruptors and drug dealers confirms that the government is serious about upholding the rule of law. Corruption not only harms state finances, but also damages public trust in government institutions. Meanwhile, drug trafficking is a major threat to the future of the younger generation and social stability. Thus, the government’s firm steps reflect its commitment to creating clean governance and a society free from the threat of narcotics.
On the other hand, the government continues to ensure that the budget efficiency carried out will not interfere with efforts to eradicate drugs. Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Commissioner General Pol. Marthinus Hukom emphasized that the budget efficiency policy will not hinder the BNN’s task in eradicating drug trafficking. The government continues to provide full support so that law enforcement against drug syndicates can run optimally.
The government’s focus in the war on drugs is now more directed at eradicating large networks, not just arresting small-scale perpetrators. This approach aims to break the chain of drug distribution in Indonesia, so that the impact is more significant in reducing drug trafficking in society. BNN, together with the police and related institutions, continues to work hard to dismantle drug syndicates, in line with the President’s vision of realizing an Indonesia free from the threat of drugs.
The strategic steps taken by the government in eradicating corruption and drugs are not only oriented towards law enforcement, but also on prevention efforts. The government continues to encourage transparency in the management of state finances and tighten supervision of sectors prone to corruption. In addition, rehabilitation programs for drug users who meet certain criteria also continue to be strengthened in order to reduce the negative impact of drug abuse in society.
The government emphasizes its uncompromising stance towards corruptors and drug dealers by not providing amnesty for perpetrators of these crimes. This decision shows a strong commitment to upholding the law and maintaining justice for the people who have been harmed by corruption and drug trafficking. Corruption has damaged the government system, hampered development, and widened social disparities, while drugs destroy the future of the younger generation and threaten social stability. With this policy, there is no room for perpetrators of extraordinary crimes to escape legal accountability, ensuring a deterrent effect for those who try to abuse power or damage the nation through drug trafficking.
