Ahead of Ramadan, Government Guarantees Stable Staple Food Prices
Jakarta – The government ensures that staple food prices remain stable ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2025. With a strategy of strict supervision and market operations, the public is guaranteed to be able to obtain basic necessities at reasonable prices.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan emphasized that the government will not allow price spikes that have the potential to harm the people.
“President Prabowo Subianto has instructed all ministries and institutions to ensure that food prices remain below the Highest Retail Price (HET),” he said.
Currently, the Minyakita HET is set at IDR 15,700 per liter, but prices in the field are still found to reach IDR 17,500. To overcome this, the government will take firm steps to control the situation.
“We will not tolerate entrepreneurs who increase staple food prices beyond reasonable limits. If there are any violations, be prepared for their businesses to be sealed and their permits revoked,” said Budi Gunawan.
In addition, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also invited the public to participate in monitoring and reporting if there are traders or distributors selling staple foods above the HET.
“We want to ensure that Ramadan runs smoothly without the burden of uncontrolled food prices,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, when directly monitoring the prices and supply of basic necessities (bapok) at the Klender SS Market, East Jakarta, said that his party would continue to monitor until Eid.
“We must maintain price stability ahead of Ramadan until Eid. The Ministry of Trade will continue to monitor by coordinating with producers, Bulog, ID Food, and distributors so that supplies are sufficient. Thus, the price and supply of basic necessities remain guaranteed,” he explained.
Trade Minister Busan also ensured that egg stocks remain safe with prices in accordance with the reference, namely IDR 30,000 per kilogram. The Ministry of Trade has coordinated with egg producers in Blitar so that they can supply national needs.
“We will continue to ensure that egg stocks remain available. Recently, we visited egg producers in Blitar, which contributes around 30 percent of the total national production. They have agreed to supply until Eid,” he said.
Similarly, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that the government will continue to monitor the stock and prices of basic necessities ahead of fasting and Eid.
“The availability of basic necessities is very crucial because it concerns the livelihoods of many people. Therefore, we continue to ensure that supplies remain safe and prices are stable,” he said.
