Appreciating the Government Encouraging Companies to Pay Eid Allowances to Online Drivers
Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has asked application-based transportation service companies, such as online motorcycle taxis (ojol) and couriers, to provide Eid allowances (THR) to their driver and courier partners.
“All application-based transportation service companies are to provide Eid bonuses to online drivers and couriers in the form of cash by considering their work activity,” said President Prabowo in his statement.
According to the President, there are currently around 250 thousand active online drivers and couriers, while around 1 to 1.5 million others are part-time workers.
“The amount and mechanism for providing this Eid bonus will be conveyed by the Minister of Manpower through a circular,” added Prabowo. The provision of the THR, continued Prabowo, must be made no later than 7 days before Eid al-Fitr.
This decision was conveyed after a meeting with PT Goto CEO Patrick Walujo and Grab CEO Anthony Tan, as well as Minister of Manpower Yassierli. Previously, Minister of Manpower Yassierli also wanted THR for online motorcycle taxi drivers to be given in the form of cash. “We ask for it to be in the form of cash,” said Yassierli.
The provision of THR to online drivers is expected to provide appreciation to partners who have played an important role in supporting community mobility, especially during the holiday and Eid al-Fitr periods. According to President Prabowo, this policy is a concrete step to ensure the welfare of drivers who have worked hard throughout the year. With THR, it is hoped that they can celebrate Eid with more peace and prosperity.
This decision also reflects the government’s attention to the digital economy sector which continues to grow rapidly in Indonesia. The government is committed to creating a fair working environment for all parties, including workers in the application-based service sector. All parties are expected to work together to make this policy a success, so that online drivers feel the direct benefits of the appreciation given by the company.
