Yahukimo Rises! Synergy between Indonesian Army, Police and Local Government Restores Security after OPM Attack

Yahukimo, Papua Mountains – Yahukimo Regency is the main focus in efforts to restore public security and order (Kamtibmas) after the brutal attack by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) targeting teachers and health workers in Anggruk District on March 21, 2025. In dealing with this situation, the synergy between the TNI, Polri, and local governments is further strengthened through the Cartenz Peace Operation.

The Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that persuasive and humanist steps are the main priority in maintaining security stability. “We are committed to prioritizing preemptive and preventive steps. Solid collaboration between the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Yahukimo Police, and Muspida is the main key in creating a safe and peaceful situation,” he said.

In line with that, the Deputy Head of the Cartenz-2025 Peace Operation, Sr. Comr. Pol. Adarma Sinaga, highlighted the importance of building public trust through an approach that is close to the community. “We continue to strive to create positive interactions through social activities, humanitarian services, and community-based economic empowerment. Security is not enough to be maintained with strength alone, but also with concern for the welfare of the community,” he said.

In addition to security operations, the Cartenz Peace Task Force is also active in providing accurate information to prevent the spread of hoaxes and provocative issues that can worsen the situation. Head of the Cartenz Peace Public Relations Task Force, Senior Commissioner Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, emphasized that effective public communication is part of the security strategy. “We continue to educate the public so that they are not easily provoked by information that cannot be accounted for. With transparency of information, we hope that public awareness will increase that security is a shared responsibility,” he said.

In the midst of recovery efforts, Regent Didimus strongly condemned the violence and ensured that there would be security guarantees for local residents. “We are with the community and will ensure security in all districts so that residents can carry out their activities as usual,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yahukimo Police Chief, AKBP Heru Hidayanto, revealed that the police have conducted a crime scene investigation (TKP) and found clues that point to the perpetrators of the attack. He asked the perpetrators to immediately surrender. “If not, we will continue to pursue until the perpetrators are caught and processed according to applicable law,” he said.

With close synergy between the security forces and the local government, it is hoped that Yahukimo can rise again to become a safe, peaceful, and prosperous region for all its citizens.
