Indonesia: Government Supports Sustainable Food Self-Sufficiency

MAJALENGKA — The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, attended the main harvest in Gandawesi Village, Ligung District, Majalengka Regency on Monday (7/4/2025).
The presence is a concrete symbol of the government’s support for achieving sustainable food self-sufficiency.

Not only that, other high-ranking officials such as the Head of Bapanas Arief Prasetyo, President Prabowo went directly to the rice fields, had a warm dialogue with farmers, and operated a modern combine harvester.
President Prabowo also directly reviewed the rice weighing process, giving farmers space to convey their aspirations regarding selling prices, fertilizer availability, and the continuation of the national food security program.
In his direction, he emphasized that food is the main determinant of the nation’s strength.
“I ask us to work harder, so that our people can enjoy protein at a reasonable price. In one year, God willing, we can achieve it,” said the President.
The President also paid tribute to farmers as the spearhead of the nation’s sovereignty.
“Farmers are food producers, without food there is no country, and without food there is no NKRI,” he said.
Majalengka Regent, Eman Suherman, said that President Prabowo’s arrival was a real form of government concern for the agricultural sector and farmer welfare.
“The President’s presence in Majalengka is proof that the government really cares about the agricultural sector and farmer welfare,” he said.
He added that the big harvest is expected to be a momentum for the revival of Majalengka as the rice barn of West Java.
He also mentioned a number of programs such as assistance for agricultural tools and machinery, price stability, and market access as the key to accelerating the transformation of modern agriculture.
Eman hopes that President Prabowo’s presence will be able to improve farmer welfare through government programs and policies.
Meanwhile, Zulkifli Hasan as the Coordinating Minister for Food emphasized the government’s optimism in achieving food self-sufficiency.
“This peak harvest further strengthens the government’s optimism that Indonesia will be self-sufficient in food, especially rice,” he said.
Zulhas also revealed that the peak harvest in Majalengka marked the success of the government’s policy in maintaining national food security.
He said that a peak harvest like this is a strong signal that Indonesia can be independent in terms of rice.
