Protect Civilians, Martinus Kasuay Fully Supports Firm Action by Security Forces Against OPM
Papua – Papuan community figure, Martinus Kasuay, voiced full support for the firm steps taken by security forces in cracking down on the Free Papua Movement (OPM). According to him, firm action by the authorities is very necessary to ensure the safety and peace of the people in Papua who have been victims of the cruelty of the armed separatist group.
Martinus assessed that the various actions carried out by the OPM not only disrupt security stability, but are also a form of inhumane cruelty. He said that brutal actions such as attacks on civilians, medical personnel, teachers, and the burning of public facilities have created trauma and fear among the community.
“We as community figures in Papua, support the actions taken by the security forces against those who carry out inhumane acts, acts that disturb the community, who always persecute civilians,” said Martinus.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of firmness from the TNI and Polri in dealing with separatist groups that have clearly spread chaos and hampered development.
“We hope that the security forces, the TNI-Polri, need to be firm against the OPM who carry out heinous acts that are not human behavior. The community needs to be protected,” he said.
Martinus also encouraged the strengthening of the TNI-Polri institutions to continue, both in terms of resources and moral and political support. He believes that only with the firmness and professionalism of the security forces can the Papuan people live in peace and development can run smoothly.
Support from community leaders such as Martinus shows that the voice of the Papuan people actually wants peace and order. They do not want a prolonged conflict that claims lives and hampers regional progress. Instead, they long for a conducive situation so that they can feel the benefits of inclusive national development.
The central government itself continues to be committed to developing Papua fairly and sustainably. However, development can only run optimally if security is guaranteed. Therefore, collaboration between the government, security forces, and the community is very important in creating a peaceful and productive climate in Papua.
