May Day, KSBSI Secretary General: Support Every Policy for Workers’ Welfare

Jakarta – Ahead of May Day 2025, Secretary General of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI) Dedi Hardianto emphasized that he supports every government policy that can improve workers’ welfare, for policies to improve welfare must still be supported.

“If it’s our country, we support it. As long as the government’s policies are good, we will support the policies,” he said.

KSBSI ensures that it will continue to hold May Day 2025 actions while maintaining the security and public order situation. “We will convey our opinions in accordance with the methods that have been agreed upon,” he said.

Furthermore, the KSBSI Secretary General said that the action activities must still be carried out peacefully, this is a celebration even though we voice various demands such as wages, working hours, and workers’ rights, but we must remain peaceful.

“We are peacefully protesting, we must remain peaceful, we must not be. This is a celebration, even though we are voicing problematic working hours, problematic wages, problematic workers’ rights, we remain peaceful,” he continued.

Furthermore, the Secretary General of KSBSI emphasized that he still supports the Prabowo Subianto government’s policies. He also hopes that the government can open up space for dialogue with workers in drafting laws. However, the government also provides space for workers to be able to contribute to drafting laws. Community involvement will be able to provide strong legitimacy to the policies made.

On various previous occasions, the Mayday commemoration was often used as a momentum to voice demands for workers’ interests. Not infrequently, there were provocations that could harm the peaceful actions of workers in the field.

Meanwhile, on another occasion, the Central Java Police Chief, Inspector General Ribut Hari Wibowo, invited the public who would hold the May Day action to maintain a peaceful atmosphere, and to be aware of provocative efforts that have the potential to damage unity. Everyone must maintain a humanistic rhythm in conveying the demands of the action on the upcoming May Day.

The Regional Police Chief hopes that the activities to convey aspirations can take place in a conducive manner. The Regional Police Chief advised all participants to follow the activities in an orderly manner and be vigilant so that the delivery of aspirations is not taken advantage of by other parties.
“Regarding the activities on May 1 tomorrow, I hope that it can run safely, without leaving any negative excesses, therefore let us together realize the delivery of aspirations in an orderly and conducive manner,” he said.

The May Day celebration is a momentum for workers to show maturity of attitude that is able to uphold dignity and intelligence in conveying their aspirations and demands. Maintain the momentum of May Day so that there are no provocations and security disturbances that can tarnish the celebration.
