May Day as a Form of President Prabowo’s Togetherness in Realizing Workers’ Hopes

JAKARTA — The celebration of International Workers’ Day (May Day) 2025 at the National Monument, Jakarta, is concrete evidence of President Prabowo Subianto’s togetherness in fighting for the hopes of workers in Indonesia.

This momentum also marks how the government’s significant steps in establishing closeness with workers’ groups while showing very real empathy for labor issues.

The President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, said that hundreds of thousands of workers celebrated May Day with President Prabowo at Monas.

“Hundreds of thousands of workers, almost 200 thousand workers, celebrated May Day with President Prabowo Subianto at Monas on May 1, 2025,” said Said Iqbal.

He emphasized that the arrival of the Head of State was a rare and historic event because the workers felt that there was concrete support from the government during the leadership era of President Prabowo Subianto.

“President Prabowo’s arrival shows empathy, concern, and siding with the lower middle class, marginalized groups, and the little people. That is the hope of all Indonesian people,” he explained.

Said Iqbal also voiced six main issues raised in the commemoration, starting from the elimination of the outsourcing system to the ratification of the Domestic Worker Protection Bill.

“May Day is not a holiday, May Day is a struggle of labor issues. Labor Day is not a holiday, May Day is a day of struggle for workers,” he said.

He also expressed confidence in President Prabowo’s vision to build the country towards better welfare.

“We are sure, we believe, and we will support President Prabowo Subianto to realize a welfare state for workers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Haris Rusly Moti from Roundtable 98 Cipayung also welcomed President Prabowo’s presence in this commemoration.

Moreover, in the history of the Republic of Indonesia, there have only been two Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia who were willing to take the time to attend in person on May Day, one of which was Prabowo Subianto.

“We appreciate this step because there are only two Indonesian Presidents present at the May Day commemoration, namely President Soekarno and President Prabowo,” said Haris.

On the other hand, President Prabowo invited workers in the country to unite and join hands together in building Indonesia Emas 2045.

“Let us unite, let us close ranks together, we achieve prosperity and welfare,” he said. (*)
