Indonesia Ready to Make the 19th PUIC a Success, Strengthen Islamic World Parliamentary Diplomacy
Jakarta – Indonesia has expressed its full readiness to host the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference, 12–15 May 2025. This determination not only makes it a venue, but also appoints Indonesia as the 19th President of PUIC, a strategic position that strengthens Indonesia’s position in Islamic world inter-parliamentary diplomacy.
The Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, welcomed the trust given to Indonesia. He emphasized that the Indonesian House of Representatives has prepared all technical and substantive aspects to make the parliamentary forum attended by OIC member countries a success.
“Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world has a moral and strategic responsibility to voice the great potential of Muslims. We want to convey that Indonesian Muslims are ready to actively contribute to world peace and prosperity,” said Mardani.
Mardani hopes that Indonesia’s role in this forum can be a driving force for the spirit of solidarity in the Islamic world, especially in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people.
“The need for collaboration between Islamic countries to be part of the solution to various global challenges, such as the climate crisis, inclusive economic development, and strengthening the role of women in development,” he added.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Indra Iskandar, emphasized that the Indonesian House of Representatives is almost 100 percent ready to hold the upcoming PUIC Conference in Jakarta. All technical aspects and substance of the event have been carefully prepared, including cross-agency coordination to ensure the smooth running of this international event.
“In terms of planning, we are very ready. Today we are reconfirming the technical aspects with related agencies, starting from immigration, customs, Angkasa Pura, to AirNav,” he added.
Indra also expressed high optimism that this conference will be a success.
“We are very optimistic. Everything is in the checklist and well coordinated. Only additional direction from the DPR leadership is needed, but overall we are ready,” he added.
The same thing was also conveyed by the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, that Indonesia is fully committed to making the 19th OIC parliamentary conference an important momentum in strengthening cross-country diplomacy.
“This conference is a real manifestation of the active role of the Indonesian parliament in efforts to create world peace. We believe that inter-parliamentary diplomacy can be a bridge to solutions to various global conflicts and challenges,” explained Puan.
