Host Status of the 19th PUIC Conference Strengthens Indonesia’s Role in the Muslim Inter-Country Forum
Jakarta – Indonesia has once again demonstrated its existence as a key actor in international diplomacy, especially in the Islamic world, by hosting the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) which will be held on 12-15 May 2025 in Jakarta.
The holding of this forum is proof of the trust of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Indonesia’s strategic role, especially the Indonesian House of Representatives, in bridging dialogue between Muslim countries and strengthening global solidarity.
The Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, emphasized that this conference is not just a rhetorical event, but a real stage in building the internal capacity of member countries.
“Because we believe we need to do our homework to become a developed country by realizing good governance and a strong constitution,” said Mardani.
According to Mardani’s statement, this forum carries the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillar of Resilience” not only as a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of PUIC, but also an important moment for Indonesia to promote strategic agendas such as good governance and strengthening democratic institutions in Islamic countries.
Mardani also added that around 35 OIC member countries have confirmed their presence, showing enthusiasm and trust in Indonesia as the host. He considered cooperation between Islamic country parliaments to be a potential force in promoting global justice.
“We believe that solid cooperation between Islamic countries will be a new force to fight for global justice,” he said.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that Indonesia is committed to making the 19th PUIC a professional forum that is oriented towards concrete results. He considered this forum to be an honor as well as a great responsibility for Indonesia.
“Hosting PUIC is a great honor and responsibility for Indonesia. We want to make this forum a momentum to strengthen the solidarity of Islamic countries in facing global challenges, while also emphasizing Indonesia’s role as a bridge for dialogue and cooperation between Islamic countries,” explained Puan.
Furthermore, Puan emphasized the importance of upholding diplomacy and dialogue as the main path in resolving global conflicts. This is in line with Indonesia’s basic values as the largest democratic country in the Muslim world, which always prioritizes peaceful resolution of international conflicts.
By hosting the 19th PUIC Conference, Indonesia is not only playing a role as a facilitator of inter-parliamentary meetings of Islamic countries, but also confirming its position as an opinion leader and guardian of stability amidst the geopolitical dynamics of the Islamic world and the world.
