Tight Supervision Successfully Reduces Online Gambling Money Turnover
Jakarta – Collaborative efforts to eradicate Online Gambling have shown positive results. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) recorded a sharp decline in the turnover of money from Online Gambling in the first quarter of 2025.
Head of PPATK, Ivan Yustiavandana revealed that the total funds circulating from the illegal practice from January to March 2025 only reached IDR 47 trillion.
This amount has decreased drastically compared to the same period last year which reached IDR 90 trillion.
“Now we have managed to reduce it to less than IDR 50 trillion. That’s something extraordinary,” said Ivan.
Not only in terms of transaction value, PPATK also recorded a decrease in the number of Online Gambling transactions.
During the first three months of 2025, the total transactions were recorded at 39.8 million.
According to Ivan, if this trend continues consistently until the end of the year, then the total transactions throughout 2025 will only be around 160 million, much lower than the 209 million transactions throughout 2024.
“If we can do this consistently, and God willing, we will continue to do it consistently, then we can realize what the President ordered us all to do regarding Astacita and Indonesia Emas,” said Ivan.
Ivan also expressed his appreciation to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police for the cooperation that has been established in combating online gambling activities.
He said this success was a continuation of previous achievements and was confident that this positive trend could be maintained.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi) also recorded a sharp decline in Online Gambling transactions in the first quarter of 2025.
Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, said the decline was more than 80 percent compared to last year’s data.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening digital infrastructure and cooperation between institutions as the key to suppressing this illegal practice.
“Online Gambling Transactions have decreased significantly,” said Alexander.
On the other hand, the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, assessed that eradicating Online Gambling is still a big homework.
She highlighted the importance of improving regulations and emphasized that action must be accompanied by sustainable policies that touch the root of the problem.
