Jakarta — Indonesia has been officially appointed as the host of the 2025 Conference of Parliaments of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC). This appointment is an important momentum for Indonesia to strengthen solidarity of the Islamic world.
The Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, said that Palestinian independence and women’s empowerment would be issues discussed in the 19th PUIC 2025 Conference.
Mardani explained a number of main focuses in the forum, namely promoting peace and harmony between OIC member countries; strengthening concrete cooperation in the economic, social, and cultural fields between Islamic state parliaments; and calling for consolidation and real steps from OIC parliaments in supporting the Palestinian people.
“The solidarity of the Islamic world must continue to be strengthened, not only in rhetoric, but also through real cooperation. Both in parliamentary diplomacy, policy support, and cross-sector programs,” he explained.
In addition, he said that Indonesia as the host also presented influential leaders in this forum. Among them, the Prime Ministers of Singapore and Malaysia were invited to share experiences on clean, effective, and resilient governance.
“We hope this can be a shared inspiration to build strong and inclusive institutions in the Islamic world,” he said.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that hosting PUIC is an honor and a great responsibility for Indonesia.
“We want to make this forum a momentum to strengthen the solidarity of Islamic countries in facing global challenges, while at the same time emphasizing Indonesia’s role as a bridge for dialogue and cooperation between Islamic countries,” said Puan.
