PUIC OKI Held, Indonesia Demonstrates Leadership of the Islamic World

Jakarta – Indonesia is hosting the 19th Parliamentary Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC OKI) which will be held on May 12-15, 2025. The Indonesian House of Representatives as the host strengthens Indonesia’s position as a bridge for Islamic world diplomacy by raising the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience.”

The Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, expressed the high enthusiasm of the delegates from the OIC member countries in the conference which this time took place at the Indonesian House of Representatives complex.

“Previously, the IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) was held in a hotel, this time it is on a large scale but held in the DPR, which of course has its own challenges because the character of the courtroom is different,” he added.

Mardani explained that an important agenda in the 19th PUIC was the discussion on good governance and strong institutions as the foundation of a more open, accountable, transparent country, and having an agile and advanced bureaucracy.

“With that, many investments can come in, the economy will develop, and our human resources will increase. Those are the homework that we are trying to highlight, so that all member countries can really work hard to realize prosperity for the community,” he concluded.

The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that hosting PUIC is an honor as well as a big responsibility for Indonesia.

“We want to make this forum a momentum to strengthen the solidarity of Islamic countries in facing global challenges, while at the same time emphasizing Indonesia’s role as a bridge for dialogue and cooperation between Islamic countries,” said Puan.

By holding the 19th PUIC, Indonesia is not only showing its readiness as a host, but also emphasizing its commitment to strengthening cooperation between parliaments of Islamic countries. It is hoped that this conference will be able to produce strategic recommendations that encourage peace, development, and the welfare of the people amidst increasingly complex global challenges.
